IPL CRICKET 2010 SEMIFINAL
CSK VS DECCAN
BOLLINGER, ASHWIN DO
THE TRICK AS CSK DEFEND
MODEST 142 TO MAKE FINAL
Navi Mumbai: The dream is on -- Chennai Super Kings are in the final. No one gave them a chance defending 142, but MS Dhoni's boys had other ideas. An outstanding performance by the bowlers and the fielders did the job as CSK restricted Deccan Chargers to 104 to notch up a 38-run win and seal a clash against Mumbai indians on Sunday. Doung Bollinger (4-13) and R, Ashwin (1-14) were sunperb as Deccan Chargers struggled to up the tempo. Muttiah Muralitharan gave all the creadit to the bowlers for the victory. "Ashwin and Bollinger bowled brilliantly and the credit goes to them, "an ecstatic Murali said.
Earlier, a poor start and some disciplined Deccan Chargers bowling, forced CSK to post a mediocre 142/7. In conditions aiding fast bowling, Ryan Harris boosted Deccan with a double-strike in the Powerplay and the support bowlers kept chipping away in the middle overs to forestall a major recovery promised by MS Dhoni and S Badrinath. S Anirudha struck some important blows in the final few overs to somewhat redress the damage done earlier and gave something for his spin-strong attack to defend.
Dhoni's assessment of the pitch and conditions proved accurate, but he had backed his top order to see off the early swing and movement while deciding to bat. However, they let him down, Matthew Hayden and Suresh Raina in particular. The ball nipped off the pitch both the pitch both ways, resulting in the ball evading the outside edge on more than one occasion and creating opportunities for Deccan with the attacking field set by Adam Gilchrist.
There were three dropped catches in the Power play; Hayden was dropped twice, at extra cover and gully, and Raina, too, closed the face too early to get the leading edge, only to be given a reprieve by T suman, again at gully.
The manner in which the top order unraveled after being granted a second life was an indication of some undisciplined batting. Hayden repeated the shot that almost got him the first time, playing loosely to extra cover. Raina stepped out and made room to nick one to Gilchrist, and Vijay decided to play off the back foot to a full delivery to be caught plumb.
