STORY OF HANDICAPS

When Sekhar saw the ring in Muthu's hand he ran to his mother and said, "The poor, yes, even his beggar has good qualities. Muthu has proved it today ! " Parimalam did not understand anything. She went to the gate and asked Muthu who he was. and he replied, "I am Muthu, a blind beggar. Sekhar gives me alms everyday. Yesterday evening also he gave me alms. At home when Sundaram, my son, was counting the coins, he saw this ring with the inscription "S" on it among the coins. Perhaps as Sekhar was giving me alms, this ring might have fallen into my bowl. I have come to return the ring. " So saying Muthu handed the ring to Sekhar.

What do we understand from this story ? Why did Sekhar's mother come to the conclusion that the poor are always untrustworthy ? Is her view correct ? What prejudices do we have about other people ?

All of us have prejudices. When we deal with other people or with other groups we often do so with prejudices in our minds and hearts.such prejudices do not bring about healthy relations. Distrust and prejudice only create divisions among us.

Remaining Story will continue tomorrow...............

5.Increasing awareness about HIV/AIDS in the community

Safer sex

It is any sexual practice that reduces the risk of passing (transmitting) HIV from one person to another.

The best protection is obtained by choosing sexual activities that do not allow semen, fluid from the vagina or blood to enter the mouth, anus or vagina of the partner, or to touch the skin of the partner where there is an open cut or sore.

Safer sex practices include:

  •     Staying in a mutually faithful relationship where both partners are uninfected
  •     Using a condom for all types of sexual intercourse ( vaginal, anal or oral ) so that the body secretions  that contain HIV do not come in contact with the skin or mucous membranes of the partner.
  • Avoiding penetrative sex, for example by replacing with: masturbation, massage, dry kissing, and hugging.
  • Avoiding sex when either partner has open sores or a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
  • Couples should talk about safer sex and learn to please each other. This can make the intercourse more pleasurable for both and less likely to cause discomfort or minor damage to the genitals.
