SENSIBLE: Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan
talks money

While the Johnny-come-lately sorts of Bollywood are constantly talking money. Bollywood supremo Aamir Khan, who is the highest paid acctor, currently has a different take on the green stuff. Aamir came up with a surprising statement saying. "I have never thaought of money as something that is there t give me a sense of security. My needs are not that many. I am earning more than enoughto cover my needs. I have a very simple life." The actor added. "The value of money is only as much as you can use it. If I have thousands of cores in the bank, or if I have an equal amuont invested somewhere, it can not give me any pleasure. Money is of no use unless I use it. If money is not used, then it only has conceptual value. It is in your head. The way I look at it, at the end of the day, you're going to live in a house, eat two three meals a day and that's about it. After a point, money ceases to mean anything."

Plane-like black boxes in
cars to help after crashes
Computer scientists in the US are developing technology that will transform cars into intelligent vehicles fitted with aircraft-style black boxes that can record information about driving behaviour during accidents. The car, which is being developed by researchers at computer chip giant intel, will record information about the vehicle speed, steering and braking along with video footage from inside and outside the vehicle, the Telegraph reported. This would be automatically sent to police and insurance companies in the event of an accident to make it easier to determine the cause of car crashes and identify the person responsible.

Satellite to monitor debris in Earth orbit:
A new US air force satellite will provide the first full-time, space-based surveillance of hundreds of satellites and thousands of pieces of debris that could crash into American and allied assets circling the Earth. If all goes as planned, the Space-Based Space Survelliance satellite, scheduled for a July 8 launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, will have an unobstructed, around-the-clock view of the increasingly heavy traffic in earth orbit - something the air force doesn't have now.

News: GREEN DRIVE CAR 'fuel' from CO2

Soon, vehicles to run on 'fuel' from CO2

London: Scientists are inching closer toproduce a new fuel from carbon dioxide and sunlight which they claim will help meet world's energy needs and minimice carbon emissions.
A team at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico,is developing the technique which will produce "synthetic liquid fuels" in solar-powered reactors. Experiments have also shown that the reactors can absorb carboin dioxide (CO2) and turn it into carbon monoxide. The same reactors can also be used to turn water into hydrogen and oxygen.
The two can then be reacted together with a catalyst to form hydrocarbon fuels. Researchers say fuels made in this way are sufficiently similar to those currently used in cars.

News: First Hydrogen town in the World

Hy-life: Welcome to world's first hydrogen town

Hydrogen Fuel Cells Power Hybrid Cars, Homes in a Trial Project In Japan

For Yosuke Ito, having a Toyota Prius on the driveway is not green enough. His house, as well as his car, is a hybrid, "I'm living the Hy-life," he said.

The single-storey home he shares with his wife, Mitsuko, near Fukuoka, 965km west of Tokyo, has mains electricity but chiefly runs on electricity but chiefly runs on electricity and het generated from hydrogen, which is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than conventional sources of power. "We save thousands of yen a year and we don't pollute so much, "he said.
Ito, 68, an unlikely green revolutionary who used to travel around Japan in a petrol-fuelled car selling soy sause, is one of hundreds of homeowners who have signed up to join the Fukuoka hydrogen town project.
Private companies, such as Nippon Oil and Nippon Steel, backed by central government, believe that hydrogenis the fuel of the future and are creating the world's first hydrogen-powered town and building the first "hydrogen corridor" that they say will eventually run from Fukuoka to Osaka and Tokyo.
The idea is simple, Supply homes with hydrogen to generateelectricity to power lights and heat water. At the same time, create a network of hydrogen filling stations so that drivers can top up their hydrogen-fuelled cars, such as Honda's stylish FCX Clarity.
So far, so futuristic, But there are problems. A hybrid house is expensive. The fuel-cell stacks cost some Euro10,000 - although government subsidies reduce that figure by about half. Nippon Oil acknowledges that even this is a gigh price to pay. Manufacturing improvements will bring the price down to about Euro 2,500 by 2015, it said.

Health Issue: BOON FOR MOTHERS

Goats bioengineered to provide human milk

Moscow: Russia has bred transgenic goats which give milk identical to human milk and coould be used as an alternative to breast feeding as it contains the human protein known as lactoferrin, absent in daity animals, according to a report.

lactoferrin protein, present in human milk, protects a newborn baby against viruses and bacteria until the baby's own immunity system becomes resistant enough.
"The first two kids with a human genome in their DNA were raised back in 2007 in the village of Goltsovo, outside Moscow, and were named Lac-1 and Lac-2, after lactoferrin , "RIA Novosti reported.

These two goats and their offspring became part of a joint Russian-Belarus BelRos Transgen researchproject, aimed at studying the properties of goat milk containg lactoferrin.

Experiments to obtain goat milk with lactoferrin have been going on in russia and Belarus for the last five years. Scientists chose the goat as a "supplier" of the human milk protein because this animal is easy to keep and is not susceptible to disease. More importantly, goat milk cause no allergic reactions in infants.

New Way To Detect Viral Infection

New way to detect viral infections
gives homeopathy a boost

Nobel laureate Luc Montagnier, who discovered the link between HIV and AIDS, has suggested a method for detection viral infections which bears close parallels to the basic tenets of homeopathy.

A Nobel laureate who discovered thelink between HIV and AIDS has suggested there could be a firm scientific foundation for homeopathy.

Professor Luc Montagnler, a French virologist, stunned his colleagues at a prestigious international conference when he presented a new method for detecting viral infections which bore close parallels to the basic, tenets of homeopathy. Al though fellow Nobel prize winners - who view homeopathy as quackery - were left shaking their heads, Montagnier's comments were rapidly embraced by homeopaths in UK eager for greater credibility.
Montagnier told the conference last week that solutions containing DNA of pathogenic bacteria and viruses, including HIV, "could emit low frequency radio waves" that induced surrounding water molecules to become arranged into "nanostructures" These water molecules, he said, could also emit radio waves. He suggested that water could retain such properties even after the original solutions were massively diluted, to the point where the original DNA had effectively vanished. In this way, he suggested, water could retain the "memory" of substances with which it had been in contact and doctors could use the ecisslons to detect disease.
For the lay person such claims may sound technical but uncontroversial. For scientists they are highly provocative because they embody principles which are extremely similar to those said to underpin homeopathy. Homeopathic medicines work on the principle that a toxic. substance taken in minute amounts will cure same symptoms that it would cause if it were taken in large amounts.
Montagnier's claims come at a sensitive time, with the British Medical Association's annual conference last week calling for the National Health Service to stop spending pounds 4m a year on homeopathy.
