]

Oral bacteria tied to
pregnancy problems
Oral bacteria can target pregnancy in healthy women, says a new study. researchers from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) have begun to understand how and which bacteria from the 700 species living in the mouth are responsible for the increasing numbers of preterm (premature) and stillbirths. Yiping Han, periodontist at the CWRU School of Dental Medicine, led the study that found several new bacteria originating in the mouth travel through the blood to cause an inflammatory reaction in the placenta and eventually cause a range of health issues from miscarriages to stillbirths.

HEALTH ISSUE: NUTS Can Reduce Blood Cholesterol

Going nuts in your diet can reduce blood cholesterol`

Washington: Going nuts in your diet can be good for your health, according to a new study, which shows that eating nuts helps to lower blood cholesterol levels. People who ate an average of 67 grams of nuts a day saw a 5.1% fall in total cholesterol concentration and a 7.4% drop in low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) - sometimes referred to as bad cholesterol -- concentration compared to no-nut eaters, the study published on Monday showed.

People with high triglyceride levels who ate nuts saw a 10.2% fall in those blood lipid levels, said the study, which analyzed data from 25 trials conducted in 7 countries, involving 583 men and women aged 19-86 with high or normal cholesterol levels. All the trial data that were analyzed for the study compared nut eaters to a control group that did not eat nuts. None of the participants were taking medication to lower their blood lipids.
Researchers led by Joan Sabate of Loma Linda University in California found in the study published Monday in the American Medical Association's Archives of Internal Medicine that the benefits to health were the same no matter what nut is eaten.
A person's weight and baseline LDL cholesterol levels did, however, influence whatever benefits might be derived from eating nuts. The higher the starting LDL-C the greater the cholesterol-lowering effects of nuts, the study found. And the lower a patient's body mass index the greater the effects of nuts on lowering cholesterol levels, the study found.

HEALTH ISSUE: The Rosing Temperatures Triggered By Warming

In 300years, Earth will be too hot for humans
People Won't be Able To Withstand The Rising Temperatures Triggered By Warming

Sydney: Climate change could make much of the world too hot for human habitation within just three conntuies, research released on Tuesday showed.

Scientists from Australia's University of New South Wales and Purdue University in the United States found that rising temperatures in some places could mean humans would be unable to adapt or survive.
"It would begin to occur with global-mean warming of about 7"C, calling the habitability of some regions into question," the researchers said in a paper.
"With 11-12"C warming, such regions would spread to encompass the majority of the human population as currently distributed," they said.
Researchers Steven Sherwood said there was no chance of the earth beating up to seven degrees this century, but there was a serious risk that the continued burning of fossil fuels could create the problem by 2300. "There's something like a 50/50 chance of that over the long term," he said.
The study  - which examined climate change over a longer period than most other research - looked at the "heat stress" produced by combining the impact of rising temperatures and increased humidity.
Sherwood said climate change research had been "short-sighted" not to probe the long-term consequences of the impact of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
"It needs to be looked at," he said, "There's not much we can do about climate change over the next two decades but there's still a lot we can do about the longer term changes."
In a commentary on the paper, published in the US-based Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Australian National University academics said climate change would not stop in 2100.
"And under realistic scenarios out to 2300. we may be faced with temperature increases of 12"C or even more," Tony McMichael said.

Bounced out, or just plain tired?
Indian Team Pays The Price For Playing On Flat Tracks
St. Lucia: Even as India prayed for a second lease of life, tow bothersome thoughts kept coming back: did the players get blown away in their last two games by an overdose of cricket? Or are they really incapable of being competitive on fast and bouncy tracks?
By the time you read this, of course, the picture would be clearer: if India do mange to beat Sri Lanka, at least one part of the question would explain itself; but to really understand the team's mindset, you will have to revisit the first two matches it played here.
After all, they looked so different, so much in command back then: the slow track and friendly bounce, if not the landscape beyond at St Lucia, might have felt like home, and they were right on top of their overt signs of weariness or mental exhaustion even.
But the moment the action moved to Bridgetown, the story changed; suddenly, the players looked exactly that: tired and jaded.Their, body language exposed the turmoil in their minds too and they suffered two straight numbing defeats.
Of course, it didn't help that they were up against two formidable pace attacks: Australia and West Indies. The latter didn't have the same firepower, but they knew exactly how to pin the Indian batsmen down.
In both scenarios, however, let us not forget the mistakes made by the team on the tactical front: in purely defensive moves, it opted for an extra batsman instead of a much-needed third seamer.
Worse, it chose to bowl on both instances after winning the toss. The thinking may not have been unsound though: "We have the means to chase down any target; let us try and exploit the moisture in the track, instead of exposing our batsmen to it." it would have worked if they had picked up wickets with the new ball. That didn't happen in either game. While batting too, they went for the shots instead of being judicious; a couple of early blows, and they were promptly out of the game.
"Last year too, India came into the T20 World Cup after a long drawn out IPL," observed former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja."It clearly hyas left them tired this time too," he added.
Sanjay Manjrekar agreed."More than anything else, they seem completely drained. I've never seen a Tendulkar or a Ganguly or even a Dravid so tense on the field," he said. Rameez pointed to the way Dhoni exulted after the stunning win over Kings XI that kept the Chennai Super Kings in the hunt. "I don't think he has reacted like that ever," he said.
Both commentators agreed that the intensity in the IPL is too high for comfort. You surely can't charge yourself again in such a short time, they felt.India, just like last time, came here for the World T20 almost immediately after the IPL final.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, too.conceded that the IPL was not the best preparation for an event like this: "Each team is allowed only four foreign players there. Each has only one or at the most two world-class bowlers.
It's not the same here."Both, Australia and West Indies, unleashed a battery of pacers in Barbados, India, sadly, were on the backfoot even before the chase began: they had yielded too many runs and the asking rate was taunting them.
They felt the only option was to fight fire with the fire: such a gambit looks good when it works; otherwise, it looks silly.and it raises many questions.

England show Kiwis the WC door
Morgan Makes Light Of Pietersen's Absence To Take Team Into Semifinals

Gros Islet (Saint Lucia): England proved there was more to their batting than kevin Pietersen as they knocked New Zealand out of the World Twenty20 with a three-wicket win here onMonday. Eoin Morgan starred with 40 after England, chasing 150 for victory, had slumped to 66 for four at the Beausejour Stadium.
But, together with Luke Wright, who made 24, the former Ireland lefthander swung the game back England's way in a stand of 52 in just more than six overs.
Morgan got out just before the finish but man-of-the-match Tim Bresnan, unbeaten on 20, ended the contest with five balls to spare when he pulled Kyle Mills for four.
England, already though to the semifinals before this final Group E match even started, after defending champions Pakistan beat South Africa earlier in the day, ended the Super Eights with a perfect played three won three record.
They will now face the runners-up in Group F in the first semifinal here on Thursday. "It's crucial that you keep the momentum going and stay in winning ways," said England captain Paul Collingwood at the post-match presentation ceremony. "There's areas to improve on again, but I'm absolutely delighted in how we've gone. A lot of credit goes to the bowlers."
England's victory also meant Pakistan went through to the semi-finals as group runners-up afrter edging New Zealand on superior run-rate.
New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori blamed repeated batting failures for his side's exit. "There were a number of factors (in losing this match), 150 was compertitive but about 10 below par," Vettori said. "We did well to fight back but Morgan and Wright's partnership took it away from us. We could have bowled better. We just haven't been able to put enough runs on the board."

Rani Mukerji - THE REAL STORY

Inspiration time

Everyone's exceted about Raj Kumar Gupta's No One Killed Jessica, which is bringing Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan together. An insider says that besides the very obvious display of histrionics between these diminutive actresses, what this film has going for it, is it's very taut screenplay. The source adds, "No One Killed Jessica, reportedly has the same pace and thrill that is there in Vikas Swarup's (yeah, the Slumdog Millionaire author) book Six Suspects." Was the book an inspiration for the film No One Killed Jessica? No one knows, and no one is saying that. But it is too early for anyone to start saying anything right now. Allegations (if any?) will always be levelled at a time closer to the film's release.

Zoe is not
a wimp

Zoe Saldana, who shot to fame with Avatar, is currenly working on The Losers. The pretty actress insists she doesn't miss female company on sets as she loves action movies so much.
"I love working with boy's and I probably do that more than most actresses. I got to do it on Star Trek. Pirates of the Caribbean and now The Losers. I like holding the gun and participating in saving the day because I think it's really sexy." says she.
However, she admits being the only woman in the cast has its drawbacks. She explains, "I almost feel like you have twice as much work to do because you don't want to be singled out. You're already the only girl, so if you're  the one who says, "I can't do this,' it's going to be like, 'She's wimping out because she's a girl.' I wanted to impress the guys."

Farooque Shaikh and Rishi Kapoor - FOOD FUNDAS

Biryani bonding

Farooque Shaikh and Rishi Kapoor, both powerhouse performers, caught up with each other in Goa recently. After pack up, these guys would hand out at a dessert shop at the beach resort laughing about old times. And their bonding continued even after Chintu (Rishi) landed in Mumbai.
Since most of their conersation in Goa centred around food, Farooque called his folks at home in Mumbai and asked them to send his friend Chintu two kilos of fish biryani and two kilos of chicken biryani.
Chintu was very touched by Farooque's gesture, but obviously didn't know what to do with so much food because his wife Neetu Singh has put him on a carb-ree diet. So, Neetu suggested that they send the food to their son Ranbir Kapoor's shooting spot. And the next thing you know is Ranbir had invited his friends, including Imran Khan for a meal. This is what we call biryani bounding!

A Still From Housefull

Housefull, A REMAKE OF
  Kaathala Kaathala?

At least that''s what producer P l Thenappan claims...

Has Akshay Kumar's Sajid Khan-directed, Sajid Nadiaewala-produced Housefull been ripped off from the Kamal Hassan-starrer Kaathala Kaathala (KK),directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and produced by P L Thenappan? "Yes," says Tamil producer Thenappan, who is planning to take legal action against the Hindi producers of the film. In an exclusive to CT, Thenappan says, "I was shocked when I watched Housefull as nearly 60 per cent of the scenes have been ripped off from my 1998 film Kaathala Kaathala, More than a year back, I was in talks with Housefull's producer Sajid Nandiadawala about selling the remake rights, but the deal did not go through. Now,after consulting with my lawyers and other members of the Tamil Film Producers Council, we are planning to take leagal action against the Hindi poducer."
Kaathala Kaathala, a comedy caper with dialogues by Crazy Mohan, featured Kamal Haasan, Prabhu Deva, Soundarya and Rambha and was a run away hit. Years later, the film was dubbed in Hindi as Mirchi Masala but didn't get released. Says Thenappan, "I bought back the dubbing rights from the person I sole it to, after paying double the amount, as there were offers to remake the film in Hindi.
It was at this stage that Thenappan started negotiating with Sajid. Sajid's previous smash-hit Kambakkht Ishq was loosely based on Thenappan's Kamal Haasan-starrer Pammal K Sambandam. Says Thenappan, "When a Tamil film is remade in Hindi, certain scenes are changed to suit the taste of the audience. The basic plot remains the same, and in case of Housefull, post the interval, there were 10 continuous scenes which were lifted from KK, though the climax and certain other scenes were modified."
