Selva starts
a 'quickie'!
The filmmaker has begun work on a film
with Dhanush and Andrea...

Director Selvaraghavan, it seems, is intent on breaking the industry belief that he takes two years to make a film. The ace director has begun work on a film a couple of days ago, which will be a quickie with his brother Dhanush and his muse Andrea. His favourite technical team, comprising cinematographer Ramji and music director G V Prakash, too will work in the flick.
Selvaraghava, after the success of his Aayirathil Oruvan, was planning a bilingual with Telugu actor Rana Daggubati. However, the project never took off because, as the grapevine states, "they had creative differences".
While Andrea is clearly Selva's favourite heroine, industry sources feel that it was his insistence on her that put paid to the Rana film. However, if tweets are to be taken seriously, Selva had wished he could have saved his marriage. But his preference when it comes to actresses is clear as he pursues with Andrea.
The director's latest flick is nothing but a revival of his earlier Dhanush Andrea flick titled Mali Nerathu Mayakkam, which was shot for 14 days before being put in the cold storage as he tried to save his marriage. This is Selva's fourth film with Dhanush, a combination that has never failed at the BO.

Health Issue: SHORT CUTS

SHORT CUTS
'Body makes antibodies
that can fight all flu viruses'
The human body makes rare antibodies effective against all flu viruses and these might be boosted to design a better universal flu treatment, researchers reported on Monday. Tests on mice suggest these immune system proteins could help most people survive a normally lethal dose of flu virus, the team at the University of Wisconsin and Seattle-based Theraclone Sciences said. It may be possible to engineer better versions of the antibodies in the lab to make a good alternative treatment for dangerous flu infections, the researchers said.

Beetroot juice reduces stroke risk:
Beetroot has long been known for its various health benefits. Now, an Indian-origin researcher led study says that drinking its bright-red juice daily could substantially reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes. A team, led by Amrita Ahluwalia at Queen Mary University in London, has found that beetroot juice contains a chemical, called nitrate, which dramitically reduces blood pressure, and also cuts the risk of heart disease and strokes. The findings have been published in the latest edition of the "Hypertension' journal.

Now, tomatoes with extended shelf life:
Indian-origin scientists in the US claim to have created a new variety of tomatoes which can stay fresh for a week longer than usual, after they found a "fountain of youth" for the delicious fruits. A team, led by Avtar Handa of Purdue University, has in fact found that by adding a yeast gene increases production of a compound which slows aging and delays microbial decay in tomatoes, the Plant Journal reported on Monday.

Health Issue: Simple saliva test for Cancer

Now, a single saliva test that can
detect a bunch of cancers
Tokyo: Japanese and US universities have jointly developed a medical technique that can quickly detect various cancers using a simple saliva test, researchers said on Tuesday.
Japan's Keio University and University of California, Los Angeles, have developed the technology with which they detected high probabilities of pancreatic cancer, breast cancer and oral cancer.
The reearchers analysed saliva samples of 215 people, including cancer patients, and identified 54 substances whose presence can be used to detect the disease, Keio University said in a statement. By further analysing the substances, the test detected 99% of pancreatic cancer cases, 95% of breast cancer and 80% of oral cancer cases among those taking part, it said.
The cancer test would takehalf a day at the longest, the researchers said. "Saliva can be sampled more easily and causally than bolld or stool inspection," said institute head Masaru Tomita in the statement.

Health Issue: 'Pacemaker'

'Pacemaker for brain
may treat Parkinson's
Washington: Disorders such as depression or Parkinson's may be helped by stimulating certain areas of brain with controlled precision, says a study, encouraging scientists to create a pacemaker for the brain.
But because controlling that stimulation presently lacks precision, over stimulation is a concern. A Tel Aviv University (TAU) team, part of a European consortium, is trying to create a chip to help doctors wire computer applications and sensors to brain. The chip will provide deep brain stimulation precisely where and when it's needed.
The team records activity using electrodes implanted in diseased areas of the brain. Based on an analysis of this activity, they develop algorithms to simulate healthy reuronal activity which is programmed into a microchip and fed back into the brain. The chip, Rehabilitaion Nano Chip (or ReNaChip), is hooked up to tiny electrodes implanted in the brain.

Health Issue: THE CLOCK'S TICKING On 30s and Early 40s Women Eggs

Women freezing eggs
to wait for 'Mr Right'
Technique Gives Future Relationships Time To Bloom
London: An increasing number of women in their 30s and 40s are freezing their eggs while they continue their search for their "Mr Right", say British doctors.
"They come in their 30s or late 30s if they haven't found the right partner," Daily Mail quoted Srilatha Gorthi, a senior research fellow at Leeds Centre for Reproductive Medicine, as saying. The technique is now as popular with healthy women as with cancer patients and those women at risk of premature menopause.
Simon Fishel, managing director of the 11-clinic chain, said: "Women are coming in their late 30s because they are starting to feel that nothing is happening. They have fallen out of a relationship, they haven't got a man." The trend was brought to light by a study of women who had applied to have their eggs frozen at a Belgian clinic between July 2009-May 2010.
Highly-educated and financially secured, these women were in their late 30s and early 40s, and had considered adoption or single motherhood before plumping to spend hundreds of pounds on IVF and egg vitrification or freezing.
They told their doctors that they wanted to "take the pressure of the search for the right partner" and "give a future relationship more time" before bringing up the subject of kids.
"By vitrifying their oocytes (eggs) they wanted to buy time to find the right partner and do everything they could to prevent age-related infertility. Moreover, frozen oocytes were considered as very precious goods, since even if they would meet Mr Right in the near futurem they would only use the frozen oocytes in the last instance, after trying to conceive naturally," said Julie Nekkebroeck, from the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at the Free University of Brussels, who headed the study.
However, others warn that egg freezing does not guarnatee motherhood and pointed out that by the time a woman reaches her late 30s. the quality of her eggs deteriorate.

For all those who didn't know, June 26 is celebrated as the international Day Against Drug Abuse. Rohit Khurana, the actor who plays Vansh, a recovering drug addict in Uttaran, feels very strongly about the issue especially now after playing this role.
"I had never done anything of this sort. I did my homework and met a few recovering addicts and tried to understand why they made those choices. I had to understand every aspect of being a drug addict in order to portrayit to perfection on screen," says Rohit.
He continues, "In the show, Ichcha is the one who can cut through the darkness and bring Vansh back to life. So, I would say Vansh was incredibly lucky to have met Ichcha. I hope other addicts meet their saviours too."
Rohit also recalls an incident from college where someone he knew had succumbed to the heavy use of drugs. "He started stealing money from his friends just so he could pay for the the drugs. Soon he became very weak and unresponsive. He was ultimately taken to rehab where it took a long time for him to recover," he recounts.

NO TANTRUMS: Imran Khan

NO Starry
tantrums

Thank God for the new generation stars. They are no less stars than our older ones, but they come with a little less attitude and starry tantrums.
For instance, look at the current hottie, Imran Khan. Recently, he had to rush back from one press conference in Chandigarh to anothe rone in Mumbai. And guess what? All the flights were full, and waiting till the next morningwould mean missing out on a planned event. No way would Imran let efforts of so many go all in vain. So, he willingly hopped on to a late night flight that was all econamy, leaving behind his starry status and ego for the earthly beings down there. And we heard that he was doubly sweet to all his fans up in the air. Atta boy! Such are true stars, who stay close to the ground.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia
Sinless siren

Damn size zero. Neha Dhupia is taking fitness to another level. In fact, we could say that she's obsessive about it. She's lost oodles of weight and is looking hotter than ever before. Her mantra is not just 'less' but 'fresh'. She's stopped having aerated drinks from bottles and cans. and milk and juices from cartons. Everything from panner to butter is freshly made at home. Of course, she can't do without her daily two to three hours of workout.
We couldn't help, but ask her about 'orgasmic' food, we mean the one that gives you a highlike choclates and desserts. She confessed tht she indulges very rarely, maybe once a month. Hmmm... that's like taking it to the extremes, no? A little bit of sin isnot so bad for you, is it?

'NO She's spent 10 years in Chennai and enjoys watching Tamil films. Hottie Minissha Lamba tells CT about interests in Kollywood and how she's married to her work
MEN IN MY LIFE

The giri from Yahaan, Minissha Lamba, who had set fotgues wagging about her going under the knife to undo the damage done by breast enhancement surgery, rubbishes the rumours saying that hers are real, "The rumour is so ridiculous, "That (breast enhancement) was not something that I needed to do. And now this; it's so laughable, I don't even want to comment on it," she says.
The doe-eyed actress is all set for the shooting of the sequel of Bheja Fry with Vinay Pathak and Kay Kay Menon, and has managed to catch the eyes of a few Kollywood directors too. "I know that there are great films being made in Tamil and there are some amazing people that I would love to work with," says Minissha who is eager to work in the south. "Not many people know that I spent 10 years in Chennai. I did my schooling in Chennai and used to enjoy Tamil films as a child. Now, the thought of doing one excites me."
The actress got critical acclaim for her role as a simple girl in her debut movie Yahaan  and she's interested in girl-next-door roles in the south too. "I have done a variety of toles but I don't have any favourite role. I want to do films that reach out to a wide audience, the family segment being my most important target audience," she says.
Although the actress isn't hitched, her heart has been stolen by none other thatn Chiyaan Vikram. "I watched Raavan recently and Vikram stole my heart with his performance. I'm can't wait to watch Raavanan for Vikram (as Veera). His performance in the Hindi version was superb and I'm sure he would have done an even more fabulous job in Raavanan."
The other Tamil film that had her floored was Ghajini. "Suriya's performance was topnotch and although the subtitles were on, I didn't need to read it to understand what was happening," Besides these actors, she says that she admires Dhanush and Ajith.
But before rumour mill start turning, the petite actress clarifies, "I admire these actors for their work, but there are no men in my life. I'm married to my work. I believe that this is the time to make a name for myself, I have the rest of my life to find love."
