IPL CRICKET 2010
Punjab Vs Chennai
Punjab's win over CSK was amazing
WEDNESDAY will witness the first of the do-or-die encounters in this year's IPL. Both Rajasthan and Punjab would be eager to register their second win after they made amends, over the weekend, for their slow start.
Punjab's victory over Chennai was really amazing because I had switched off the television when there were 20 runs left for Chennai to win. I caught the Super Over on the highlights and it was a truly incredible win for Kumar Sangakkara's team. A victory like this could be a catalyst for the side, making them a stronger, more confident and charged unit in coming games.
The biggest gain for Punjab would be the way their icon, Yuvraj Singh, Pulled off the game for them. There has never been any doubt that the left-hander is one of the biggest talents around. Focusing on the game has been an issue in the past but when he puts his mind to it, Yuvraj has been a proven match winner.
Punjab's coach Tom moody is also back in the mix after an ordinary season with Western Australia. He is a fantastic man-manager and would be looking sorward to some positive news during his stint with the Kings XI.
Rajasthan Royals should also have gained a lot of confidence from their win over the Kolkata Knight Riders. It was an incredible win in its own way because Ganguly's men were simply not allowed to cut loose right through the innings.
Shane Warne and Moody are good mates so it would add some extra spice to see them on opposing sides. I expect a good contest, because neither team would be wanting a fourth loss in jfive games.
Monday's encounter between KKR and Mumbai Indians once again proved that the latter was playing freely while the former was still a victim of uncertainty and a fear of losing. T20 is all about going full throttle from the start, and you simply cannot have wickets in hand and yet not have a 180-plus total. KKR seems to be going at 80% of their full potential, and in some ways are playing the hesitant, circumspect brand of cricket that Mumbai were uilty of playing in the inaugural season.
Mumbai on the other hand are playing free, uninhibited cricket and taking full advantage of the good form Sachin Tendulkar has been displaying of late. They look determined to do well this season and their position at the top of the table announces that intent.
