Kings XI Punjab ?& Royal Challengers Team at Bangalore
Bangalore out bat Kings XI
Bangalore: It was a delicious home-patented dish Ugadi 'pachchadi' served for the fans by Royal Chalengers Bangalore on Tuesday. the home side overcame a huge target, 204 set by Kings XI Punjab thanks to a calculated assault by Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa.
For a side that has never man aged a total of 200 in the IPL, the target of 204 in itself was a mammoth task; leave the pressure of delivering before an ambitious home crowd and a forgettable home record.
But all that changed as opener Kallis (89 n,o., 57b, 8x4, 5x6) produced yet another fluent innings to lead Royal Challengers to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab, their first in IPL 3.
The veteran South African was joined in the run feast by home lads Manish Pandey (38, 26b, 2x4, 3x6) and Robin Uthappa (51, 21b, 4x4, 4x6) as RCB dished out an unforgettable show before the near capacity holiday crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
As expected, RCB included the experienced Mark Boucher in place of shreevats Goswami for the wicket keeping job. The move meant RCB had to rtry out a new opening pair for the season and they went for the one that had struck gold towards the business end of the previous edition in south Africa.
Kallis and Pandey went about the job in style with the latter producing some characteristic mix of orthodox and unorthodox strokes.
Leggie Piyush Chawla gave the visitors the much-required relief, dismissing Pandey in his scond over, the ninth of the innings.
RCB coach Ray Jennings had specifically mentioned the need for the likes of Uthappa to fire for a huge total and the Bangalorean roared back to his old self in a crucial phase.
Uthappa collected as many as 25 runs off his good friend S Sreesanth's 13th over and reached the half-century from just 19 balls but 61 away from victory with six overs in the kitty.
