IPL CRICKET MUMBAI INDIANS

Tendulkar, Warne Set
For Another Battle As Royals Take On Mumbai Indians

Mumbai: the legendary rivalry between Aussie great Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar is set for another grand renewal. The two legends willo be back at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the champions of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals, take on hosts mumbai indians.

It's quite an awesone sight to see Sachin and Sanath opening the batting. A few bowlers around the world will be worried

Tendulkar's purple patch in 1998, when he scored 12 international hundreds (9 ODI tons and 3 Test tons) started at this very ground  with the demolition of Warne in the three-day match against Ranji champs Mumbai, Tendulkar who was leading MUmbai, repeatedly swept the leg-spinner across the line and got to his first first class double ton, a savage 204 not out (192 balls, 25x4, 2x63) to do story the leg-spinner and his reputation.
Nearloy 12 years , Warne still remembers the pasting. He also realises that at nearly 37, the run-machine is probably playing the best cricket of his life, having recently scored and unbeaten 200 in an ODI vs South Africa. "Sachin has been a friend for a long time. In my 20 years of playing against him, he has won some battles and I have won some. Particularly out here they have seen him win most of the times and hit me half way out of the stands. I wish to put it right tomorrow, " Warne said.
Mumbai Indians also have Sanath Jayasuriya, JP Duminy and Shikhar Dhawan who can score a scrching pace if they get in. Lasith Malinga's slinging deliveries could knock a few batsmen out especially if MI fiels first as the sea breeze comes in late in the afternoon. But the Royals will have the magic and inspirational captaincy of Warne to bank on. What they also have is the solidity of Graeme Smith at the top and the explosive hitting power of Yusuf Pathan.
They however, will provide the supporting cast. Once the clock strikes three on Saturday afternoon, the focus will be on the protagonists. A blonde leggie and a diminutive curly-haired genius.

HOCKEY WORLD CUP INDIA FINISH EIGHTH

Heart - breaker

India Go Down 2-4 Argentina To Finish Eighth

New Delhi: Scorelines can at times deceive you. They don't talk about ball possession, they don't talk about the fast, attacking hockey played by the team which has lost; they don't talk either about the scoring chances created by the losers. But scorelines rarely lie they tell you clearly which team exploited the chances which came its way to make it count. Well, that was the story of India's fight for the seventh place in the Hero Honda World Cup here on Friday evening. And the scoreline: 4-2 in fovour of Argentina.

Rajpal singh's men played a fast game for the first 25 minutes, dominating the midfield, attacking from both the flanks. They failed to make it count and a silly mistake saw them concede a soft goal. In the second half, they tried to attack again even as Argentina tried to slow down the game. They even equalized through Sandeep Singh off a penalty stroke but what followed was mayhim for the hosts.

They conceded three goals in three minutes -- captain Matias Vila scoring twice -- and the fight was over. It was as if the Indians had suddenly gone to sleep and had been woken up with a cruel, rude jolt. It was defending at its worst but credit must also go to Argentina for counter-attacking well and exploiting India's weakness to such deadly effect.

The Incians did fight after that but managed to get just one goal through Shivendra Singh -- in the 49th minute. After that Argentina defended well and Indian for wards simply failed to find the way to goal after entering the circle again and again.

So, India had muich more possession of the ball, they penetrated the circle much more and yet walked ouit with nothing to show for it.

Spain take fifth spot, Kiwis finish ninth: Pol Amat scored twice to bring Spain a 2-0 win over South Korea and fifth spot. Amat struck when the match was just 18 seconds old and doubled the score in the 32nd minute. The Spaniards, third at the last World Cup and silver medalists at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, sustained severe pressure from the Asian champions in the second half.

New Zealand came into the Hero Honda World Cup, ranked a fairly respectable eighth in the world. Even at the 2006 Monchengladbach WC, they had managed to match their rankings with an eighth-place finish. They aimed for something better this time. "We were expecting a fifth-sixth finish at least, " their coach Shane McLeod said. He should consider himself lucky his side didn't end 10th.

Outsiders South Africa almost ran away with their 9thg-10th ply off. leading 4-3 till the last minute. With just six seconds left for the final hooter, the Kiwis earned themselves a short corner, converted it, and after the extra-time session failed to break the 4-4 deadlock, finally managed to win the close clash 5-4 via sudden death.

HOCKEY WORLD CUP FINAL

HOCKEY FINAL
AUSTRALIA Vs GERMANY

Rubof the green could
get Australians gold

New Delhi: Austalia and Germany, for the third time in eight years, will battle for hockey's biggest honour.
When action begins at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium, here on Saturday, the Germans will be on the threshold of a hat-trick of World Cup titles. The Australians, aiming for their second after 24 years, would hope to end a painful sequence of finishing runners-up twice in a row - to the same team, Germany Coach Richand Charles worth, though, lets bygone be bygone. "I was just an interested spectator in the last the last two World Cups. Here, the opponents are different, out team is very different, the coaches are different, I am different. This team can make its own history by doing justice to itself and winning the World Cup, " the player of the 1986 World Cup said.
Charlesworth, however, is mindful about his opponents in the jfinal. "It will be a difficult game for us, " said the man who guided the Austalian women to both World Cup and Olympic success.

The Germans, after all, are the only unbeaten team in the tournament. But like the Aussies started on an indifferent note, trailing 0-2 at one stage against South Korea. They fought back to draw but since then have looked the solid vaunted unit they are.

Coach Makus Weise has been guarded about his team's performance, castigating his charges after the matches against Canada and Argentina. However, he cannot be too unhappy with the way the team ended the pool engagements - especially against the Dutch where they trailed with seven minutes to go and against New Zealand when they regained control after letting a 3-0 lead slip to the narrowest of margins.

"We have achieved our aim of reaching the semifinals with a young team, " he said some what modestly. Don't however, rule out an endgame from the chess-loving Weise, who has already led Germany's Men's and Woman's teams to Olympic gold.

Actor Harish has hit the jackpot. Yes, he's just landed the lead in accoaimed director Sami's venture, Sindhu Samavali.
"When I heard that Sami was looking for a fresh face for his next film. I met him and gave my album. I did the screen test and after a round of audition, Sami signed me for the project. I can't reveal much about the film, but I play a 12th standard student in the film. The film will have Sami's touch. I lioked his Mirugam very much and I'm happy to be working under his direction, "says this actor.
But he quickly adds that Sindhu Samavali is his second film. "I quit studying engineering to join an acting school in Chennai. After I completed the course, I signed my first film, A ridhu Aridhu with Mathivanan, an associate of director Shankar. I'm paired opposite newcomer Uthara. PRIYANKA CHOPRA - FACING THE HEAT With Ranbir and Sajid

oh,  no  'social' ising ?

Sajid leagally forbids Priyanka and Ranbir from talking about Anjaana Anjaani on social websites

Sajid Nadiadwala is the first film producer to actually take the much-needed step against stars putting up information about under production films on social networking websites. While other producers and directors have only been talking about it, Sajid Nadiadwala has gone ahead and belled the cat.
He has contractually forbidden his cast and crew from writing on any social networking site about his new film, Anjaana Anjaani. This critical decision had to be taken after Sajid saw a constant mation being put up on the site.
Sajid had a closed -door meeting with his director and decided enouth was enough.
Says Sajid, "I actually took the decisio9n to forbit my cast and crew from putting any information on websites after an incident that happened with Sajid Khan, my director of Housefull. we were doing a photo-session with the films stars. We weren't even finished and Sajid Khan had already put one of the pictures on the site. I was horrified. That's when I decided it was time to include a confidentiality clause in all my contracts. "
Sajid Nadiadwala laments the lack of privacy among stars today. "I remember when my fathe produced JP Dutta's Ghulami; we'd stand outside Dharmendra's van for hours, waiting for him to emerge so we could see what he wore, how he styled his hair and what watch he had on. Today, the stars volunteer all this information on the social networking sites even before the director cans his first shot. I think all of us need to make confidentiality compulsory for every film. "

RANA DAGGUBATI - LEADING THE WAY

RANA TO BRING
LEADER TO MUMBAI

Rana Daggubati, who makes his Hindi debut in rohan Sipp's Dum Maro Dum, want s to bring his Telugu political block buster Leader to Mumbai with subtitles.
Says Rana, "The political message of the film is definitely not restricted to Andhra Pradesh. I'd like to remake the film in Tamil and then, may be in Hindi. "
Explains Rana, "we've tried to show the difference between a politician and a leader. We've heard so many chief Ministers being sworn in but we do not know what their oath means. Also, we have been reading about Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi, right from our school days. Today, my five-year-old nephew is studying about the same national leaders. Where are the political heroes of the new generation ?"
Says Rana daggubati, "My role is an amalgamation of a whole lot of younger politicians from Rahul Gandhi to Barack Obama. For months my laptop was open showing profiles of international politicians. Locally, my reference points were Rahul Gandhi, Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot.
It's good to see today's generation becoming more and more politically savvy. I thought earlier that yougsters would enjoy the love story. But they connect more with the politics in Leader. We are heading on the right direction. "
Apparently, a song Maa Telugu Talli... in Leader had to be changed because of the current political disturbances in Andhra Pradesh.
Rana plays it safe by saying. "There were some rumours about removing the song. We did alter it during the shooting because we understood the sensitivity of the issue. "

GISELE BUNDCHEN - OH MOTHER !

Gisele Bundchen's
stronger now!

Gisele Bundchen has revealed that she never felt stronger than when she welcomed son Benjamin, her child with husband Tom Brady, into the world, last December. The sexy lady wrote on her blog. "Giving birth was the most intense and life-changing experience of my life. I never felt so vulnerable, and so strong at the same time. When he finally was placed into my arms. I felt unconditional love. I felt a huge sense fo accomplishment. I've never felt so complete and empower in my life. "Gisele delivered Benjamin at Tom's Beacon Hill penthouse, in Boston , and she admits the familiar surroundings helped keep her calm during the labour, which took place in the bathtub. JACQUELINE and RITEISH - JODI KAMAAL KI

No Golmaal
for Riteish

There is something really wrong here. While Aladin's magic and Ram Gopal Warma's media-power failed to do wonders for Riteish Deshmuck at the BO, we thought the boy would watch his next moves. But out sources revealed that Riteish was offered a part in Golmaal 3, but the actor couldn't doit. May be the supreb line-up of actors-- Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi Kareena Kapoor and Shryas Talpade was a bit too much for RD to handle. Riteish has Jaane Kahan Se Aaye Hai, with Jacqueline Fernandez, and we hear that this Jodi has quite a chemistry brewing. Jaane Kahan Ms Genie (Genelia) gaye hai?
