Heigl urges people to

stop animal abuse

Actress Katherine Heigl is highly concerned with the 'ugly truth' about animals being abused and tormented. She wants animal abusers to be punished strictly. Salt month, the beauty helped a pooch that was discovered with its legs tied together in a muddy fields in Bakers field, California.

The accused, James Worley, has since been arrested and faces a possible charge of animal cruelty. Later, the actress announced the pooch's new home. The pitbull was named 'England' after the animal control officer who saved him, Kristen England, courtesy the Grey's Anatomy star's The Heigl Foundation. She also revealed that she'll be working in conjunction with Last Chance For Animals to prevent animal cruelty. Heigl will offer rewards through the foundation to those who will help them in providing information on animal abusers.

"The thing is that you don't want to give up on these animals. Just because the've been through what they've been through doesn't mean that they can't have an enjoyable, happy, loving life," said the Knocked Up star.

Whoever said you can't have friends in the industry needs to do a rethink. Two well-known faces from tinseltown will soon come together for a venture owing to their dosti.

Divya Spandana and Dhanush, who were last seen in the superhit Polladhavan, will team up once again.

This time though, it won't be a comercial release, but a short film. Dhanush, following in dad Kasthuri Raja's and brother selvaraghavan's footsteps, will be at the helm of this project. The actor, who has been hinting at turning director for a while now, has, in most of his recent interviews, expressed a desire to direct.

While Divya, who's currently in the city shooting for Kadhal to Kalyanam, remained tight-lipped about the project, her status line on a social networking site said it all.

"Doing a short film for my friend Dhanush. He is an amazingly talented guy; a great actor and soon-to-be-director"

What remains to be seen is if wife Aishwarya, who's also inclined towards film making and has previously assisted brother-in-law Selva, will also be a part of the film.

It's been almost six years since his previous film, Jananam, hit the screens, And now, director D Ramesh is back with his third film, Kalavaram with Sathyaraj. The film, which is based on a real life incident, is likely to hit the screens by the end of this year.'

Talking to CT. Ramesh says, "Kalavaram is based on the biggest riot that has ever taken placein Tamil Nadu. The film provides a solution for violence.
Sathyaraj plays a deputy police commissioner who heads an investigation commission. Such commissions are usually organised so that the public will believe that something is being done about the incident. Through my film, I want to throw light on the plight of these commisions."
The director says the film has no love angle and will have only two songs. "The film is 50 per cent complete and has been shot in areas in and around Chennai and Maduram, " he addws.
Ask Ramesh why it took him so long to decide on his next project and he says, "I was working on Runway, which was supposed to be my third project. But it had to be shelved due to financial issues. My first film, Utavuthurai, with Vijaykanth, was bout smuggling while my second film, Jananam, with Arun Vijay, was on employment issues. Now, Kalavaram will be about riots and uprisings!"

Kunal Kapoor, the guy with the drool factor, is on his way to becoming a certified pilot. And a lot of women find him extra sexy now.

An actor who can fly an aeroplane definitely has additional advantages. Kunal, who wowed the audience with his performance in Rang De Basanti and made a name for himself with Aaja Nachle, says that flying an airplane when the sun is about to set is the most romantic expereince ever.

Considering he's single, there's going to be a bevy of beauties waiting to fly off into the sun set with Kunnu. Well, we think Kunal is going to be spoilt for choice soon.

Whenever Vincent Asokan reminisces about the time he worked with Vijay and Ajith simultaneously, he gets all excited.

"Pokkiri was the turning point in my career and I owe it all to Prabhu Deva and Vijay. The film came at a time when I needed a hit badly. Prabhu said i could pull off the role with ease. And Vijay was at his helpful and Jolly best. Even if he got his shot okayed in the first take, he would willingly go for another if his co-actors felt the need. We used to discuss cinema on the sets," he says.

"I also had the opportunity to work with Ajith at the same time in Alwar. Though he doesn't talk much on his sets, he makes sure his co-stars feel comfortable, He is chivalrous and a wonderful artiste," says Vincent.

Preity Zinta - JUST CHILL

Preity Zinta is taking a break before she rolls up her sleeves and gets in front of the camera once again. The actress has left for Thailand and is having a ball doing nothing for a change. However, this time, Preity isn't traveling for company. Looks like it's time to bond with mommy dearest. Juhi Chawla's perils haven't ended. The actress has spent the last few weeks at the hospital keeping vigil over her brother Bobby Chawla, who is making very slow progress. And news has just come in that Juhi's secretary of many years -- KS Sanjay has alsobeen admitted to the ICU in the same hospital.

While Juhi's hands are folded in prayer, she has been receiveng good support from her close friends like Shah Rukh Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Rani Mukerji all of who have been paying regular visits to the hospital to see her brother.
