ILAYATHALAPATHY VIJAY - 3 idiots

Friday, March 19, 2010

AAL IZZ WELL
FOR
VIJAY

The ilayathalapathy is likely to star in the Tamil version of 3 idiots...

It has almost been confirmed that ilayathalapathy Vijay will play Rancho, the character made memorable by Aamir Khan in the Rajkumar Hirani-directed 3 idiots. The Bollywood mega block buster will be remade in Tamil by a popular production house which has the remake fights in all south Indian languages. The company had earlier bought Sanjay Dutt's Munnabhai MBBS from its Hindi producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and remade it in Tamil as Vasool Raja MBBS with Kamal Haasan which turned out to be a hit.
Vijay reportedly loved 3 Idiots and expressed a desire to do the Tamil remake. So, the producers approached him and he is said to have  willingly agreed to do it without any change in the story. A source close to Vijay said that the actor felt that there was more heroism and grit in Rancho's character than in the larger than life superheroes who dominate commercial cinema. "Also, he found the underlying message in the film poweful. The actor is confident that the film will work with the masses and classes alike, " he said.
The source added that the actor feels the original has tremendous youth appeal and a feel good factor which will work in a big way with the audiences. "It will work big time in Tamil Nadu, which has the maximum number of engineering colleges in the private  sector in India. Says a leading Tamil film director, "Vijay understand commercial cinema better than most other actors. He realises that the days of the bad-guy-bashing-heroes are numbered. He wants to move on and do something more sensible and different. The concept of 3 Idiots -- which openly challenges our education system that encouraged learning by rote -- will work with the common man for whom education is of prime importance. "
VIJAY FELT THAT THERE WAS
MORE HEROISM AND GRIT IN
RANCHO'S CHARACTER THAN IN
LARGER-THAN-LIFE SUPERHEROES
The producers of the film are now on the lookout for a director who can do a balancing act between commercial and sensible cinema. Vijay himself is reported to have told the producers that he does not want to tinker with the storyline or introduce mass elements, and wants a director who will be faithful to the original. Noted director Vishnuvardhan was approached to do the remake, but declined it citing other commitments in Telugu.Says Vishnuvardhan, "I thing it is going to be a kickass film. Vijay is fantastic in comedy roles. I wish I could do it, but unfortunately I'm busy with two Telugu projects with Allu Arjun and Ram. "
Noted cameraman Ratnavelu has been approached to handle the camera for the film, which is likely to have music by Vijay Antony (the original Shantanu Moitra's music with chartbusters like Aal Izz Well and Zoobie Doobie come with the remake rights). Source state that among those contacted for doing the heroine's role are Shruti Haasan and Asin However, When contacted, Shruti refuted the claim and went on to say, "I haven't been approached for this project. Currently, my commitments and dates lie with Murugadoss's film. I'm also busy setting up house in Mumbai and have no time to breathe. "
Meanwhile, the grapevine is abuzz that Sathyaraj has agreed to play the role of Viru Sahastrabudhhe (or Virus, as he was called)--the grumpy principal in the film. Jiiva has given the nod to play the role of Raju, played by Sharman Joshi. Farhan's role, played brilliantly by Madhavan in the original, is likely to be played by an upcoming star, after Simbu politely refused it.
It sure looks like izz well for Vijay as the film will start rolling by July after he completes the first schedule of Bodyguard's remake with Siddique.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali - TOO LATE

TIME OUT
Tired of waiting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali to start production of Chenab Gandhi, the film's writer-director Vibhu Puri parts ways with him

They both picked up Filmfare Best Actor awards when they came together in Paa,but writer-director Vibhu Puri's dream of seeing them share the same frame in his ambitious film Chenab Gandhi may remain just that -- a dream

Ouri, who has written the script of the film, had teamed up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali to translate it into celluloid. But there's word that the two have had a fallout.

So while Sanjay Leela Bhansali may still harbour a desire to go ahead with the film, there's little he can do since the story belongs to Vibhu Puri, Which also means that after he completes Guzaarish, (incidentally, Vibhu Puri, also co-wrote this one), Bhansali will have to work on a new idea for his next.
It emerges that the bone of contention between Bhansale and Puri was that the director had finally run out of patience because the film was just not getting off the blocks. Asource close to Puri says, "Vibhu waited for two years. Finally his patience began to wear thin and even had a word with Bhansali about it. Now he's just taken the script and left. "
Those in the know vouch that Chenab Gandhi has had more than its fair share of hiccups. After Hurman Baweja walked out of it, something went wrong when John Abraham was approached. Finally, Rajeev Khandelwal was taken on board. Shooting for the film was supposed to start in September 2009, but the schedule was reportedly delayed because Khandelwal was busy with his reality show Sach Ka Saamna.
ource close to Puri say that other producers have been sending feelers and have expressed interest in his script, but the flip side is that even if Puri does make the film with somebody else, he may not get the dream team of Amitabh-Vidya-Rajeev.

A STILL FROM - Azhagana Ponnuthan

Blame game

Here is yet another Kollywood spat. According to sources, tension is brewing between director Thiru and actress Namitha. The buzz is that Thiru is blaming Namitha for the fiasco of his latest release, Azhagana Ponnuthan, in which Namitha played the lead.

"Namitha refused to cooperate with the maing of Azhagana Ponnuthan and distanced herself from the film. Also, she steered clear of the promotion unlike her earlier films like Nil Gavani Ennai Kadali and Indira Vizha, " fumes Thiru.

The director goes on to add that the film's planned length was two hours and 25 minutes but he could hardly shoot for two hours. "Namitha had earlier complained that she was scared of me and refused to give me dates for the crucial climax. With great difficulty, I some how managed to shoot the film in 25 days. But a beautiful song and a crucial climax scene  where the hero returns and escorts her back could not be shot due to her non-cooperation. we even had to make some changes in the script due to her elusive act. "

Sources claim that the actress was also quite iffy about acting with newcomer Karthik. "She already knew the story before accepting the film and had also competed the photo shoots with the young hero. If she was not happy with the project, she should have backed out in the very begining. "

Looks like there is a storm in Kollywood!
