DEATH THREATS?

Kim Kardashian has been getting 'death threats' from Justin Bieber fans. The socialite was astonished by the outpouring of messages she received after she posted, on a social net working site, having "Bieber fever" after meeting theteenage heart throb at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington recently.
In a message directed at Justin, who posted a picture of them together describing the brunette beauty as his girl friend, she replied, "I'm getting death threats from your fans!
This is unbelievable!" The 16-year-old singer was shocked, responding with, "Seriously?" This is not the first time the Baby hit maker's followers have caused problems. His female fans knocked over his mother as they mobbed him at a New Zealand airport last month. The Candian teen sensation was rushed through the terminal building to escape hoards of screaming teenagers, who stole his hat, even as they caused a stampede.
He later said, "Finally got to New Zealand last night. The airport was crazy. Not happy that someone stole my hat and knocked down my mama. Come on people." Police told the singer to axe plans to sign autographs and take pictures with admirers amid fears that the crowd would get further out-of-control, prompting many of the witing group to burst into tears. Hoards of fans aloso forced the cancellation of a scheduled appearance by the 16-year-old star in Sydney, Australia, recently. Police reported "mass scences of hysteria" and ten girls fainted as they waited through the night to watch their idol perform.

Dia Mirza and Shoaib Akhtar - THE REAL STORY

No Shoaib connection!

It was the strangest of link-ups anyway. Dia Mirza was randomly linked by a section of the media to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Aktar. And while some TV channels did pick up the news and flashed it, it wasn't really credible enough for the 'press' to blow it out of proportion.
When we quizzed the gorgeous lady about the 'latest hook-up' she didn't even deem it important to get upset or angry.she actually blinked and laughed it off. "My association with Shoaib is probably the same as yours," she said. "I've seen him on TV, that's it!" she laughed and then added, "Just because one Mirza got married to one Shoaib (referring to Sania Mirza-Shoaib Malik), it doesn't mean another Mirza should also be linked with a Shoaib!" she giggled. Well said Dia. now tht should bowl out all those rumour mongers, shouldn't it?

Lara Dutta and Riteish Deshmukh - 'BUTT NATURALLY

Italy's
changed!

For a change, we aren't talking about 'the man' in Lara Dutta's life. In fact, it's the 'men' this time. We think, even one Mahesh Bhupati should pay attention to this. Recently, while talking about her latest release Housefull, Lara expressed her disappointment with Italian men. She ruefully said, "Italy has couldn't a lot. When I was there years ago, it was like a woman couldn't walk down the street without a man whistling at her, or at times even getting her butt pinched. While shooting for Housefull. I realised that it doesn't happen anymore. The men don't even compliment the ladies. I think Riteish got more pinched." Lol! We don't think his butt is more attractive than your butt, lovely lady. We're sure Riteish would agree too. No 'ifs and butts' about that, what say?

Anushka Sharma - ONE AT A TIME

'I'm too selfish to be
in a relationship'

Anushka sharma is off to London. The PYT has flown to the UK to attend the premiere of her latest film, Badmaash Company. And Anushka says that she is not embarrassed to watch the intimate scenes she'd done with co-star Shahid Kapoor, with her family.
"The biggest reason I signed the film was because of my brother. He has a gut feeling about films despite not being from the industry (he's in the merchant navy). And the intimate scenes with Shahid are not a big deal. Audiences today don't have closed minds. Moreover, I've never hidden anything from my folks," she says.
Her character in the film, which is set in the '90s, is as forthright. But were women in the '90s that brazen? "Bulbul Singh is a Rajasthani girl from Jaipur. She comes to Mumbai to become a model and lives alone. I'm sure Madhu Sapre and Mehr Jessia also lived their lives differently in the '90s " reasons Anushka.
This is her second film after her debut in 2008.  Why is so little happening in her career ? "It's a conscious decision to do as many different roles as possible. Lot of films came my way after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi but it's extremely boring to do the same thing. Unfortunately, the role you play in your first film is a reference point for most people. But if doing the right kind of films means not being every where all the time, I'm ok with it," states Anushka. "I want to do very classy, good work. It's the script that matters," she says.

Pig virus DNA found in
rotavirus vaccine

Pieces of DNA from a pig virus were found in Merck & Co inc's vaccine against a diarrhea causing infection, but US health officials said there was no evidence of a risk to people. DNA.from the same virus was found in a rival GlaxoSmithkline Pic vaccine. Glaxo and the Food and Drug Administration in March urged doctors to suspend use of that vaccine, but there was no similar recommendation for Merck[s product. The FDA will seek input on both vaccines, which fight rotavirus infection, at an advisory panel meeting on Friday, Merck said the company's preliminary testing found "very low levels" of DNA from porcine circovirus, or PCV, in its Rotateq vaccine. Rotavirus vaccines have a troubled history, Wyeth's Rotashield was pulled off the market in 1999 after it was linked with a rare but deadly bowel obstruction.
Now, a talking pillow for students:

Here's some good news for students - now, a "talking pillow" which would help you in revision of lessons during examination, even in sleep. According to its designers, the pillow allows the students to hear pre-recorded lectures or class notes as they sleep, and they will remember at least some of the information when they wake, the Daily Mail reported, In fact, the Euro 20 "Sound Asleep" pillow has a speaker buried in its fibres which can be linked to an MP3 or CD player, say its designers. The technology appears to be supported by a US study which found that revision reminders received during sleep can be recalled.

Liver cirrhosis tied to memory loss:

A study led by a Loyola University researcher has revealed that more than half of patients who have cirrhosis of the liver also display neurocognitive impairments such as short-term memory loss. Christopher Randolph and colleagues found that 54% of 301 cirrhosis patients who were tested scored below the 10th percentile for their age and education on a test that measures neurocognitive abilities. Neurocognitive impairment in liver patients is called hepatic encephalopathy. It is believed to be caused by toxins such as ammonia that diseased livers do nto clear from the body.

HEALTH ISSUE: Think you can't tolerate lactose?

Think you can't tolerate lactose?
You may be wrong

New York: If you've cut down on milk because you think your gut can't tolerate the sugar in it, you might be doing your health a disservice, according to a spanish study.

Researchers from the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona found more than half the patients who thought they couldn't digest lactose were mistaken.
When they drank a lactose solution that was equivalent to a quart of milk in the lab, their gut absorbed the sugar normally and they experienced less cramping, gas and other bowel trouble than at home. "There is extended belief that these are caused by lactose in dairy products." the researchers said.
The ability to digest lactose depends on an enzyme in the gut called lactase. When there isn't enough of this enzyme, bacteria feast on the leftover sugar, producing lots of gasses.
In contrast to this so-called lactose malabsorption or maldigestion,
lactose intolerance refers to the symptoms-- for instance, flatulence and stomach pain -- that occur after ingesting lactose.

HEALTH ISSUE: Human Where they lived Together For 50,000 years

There's a bit of Neanderthal in all of us
Human & cave Men Likely To Have Interbred In Mideast, Where They Lived Together For 50,000 Years

Washington:  We have met Neanderthal and he is us -- at least a little. The most detailed look yet at the Neanderthal genome helps answer one of the most debated questions in anthropology: Did Neanderthals and modern humans mate?

The answer is yes, there is at least some cave man hiology in most of us. Between 1% and 4% of genes in people from Europe and Asia trace back to Neanderthals. "They live on, a little bit," says Svante Paabo of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary anthropology in Leipzig.
Researchers led by Paabo, Richard Green of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and David Reich of Harvard Medical School compared the genetic material collected from the bones of three Neanderthals with that from five modern humans.
Their findings, reported in Friday's edition of the journal Science, show a relationship between Neanderthals and modern people outside Africa, Paabo said.
"People are interested in the question: By what route did I get here?" And the idea that there is a faint echo of Neanderthals" is interesting, said Richard Potts, director of the Human Origins Program at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural history.
Humans trace their origins out of Africa into the Middle East and then on to other parts of the world. The genetic relationship with Neanderthals was found in people from Europe, China and Papua-New Guinea, but not people from Africa.
Paabo agreed his finding does not mean that only people from outside Africa have some cave man biology. With more study it might be found in some Africans also. The closest extinct relative to modern people, Neanderthals existed from about 400,000 years ago to about 30,000 years ago. They coexisted with modern humans for 30,000 to 50,000 years in Europe and western Asia.
While many people think of Neanderthals as very primitive, archaeologists have found they had tools for things like hunting and sewing, controlled fire, lived in shelters and buried their dead.
Asked if the findings show differences between Africans and non-Africans, Paabo replied that people who want to present data in some sort of racist perspective would find a way to do so. He said, one way to look at this data could be to say people outside Africa are more primitive, while another way could be to say there is something beneficial about being part Neanderthal. "There is no basis to link this to some sort of advantage of one group over another," he said.

 CRUSH COURSE
WARNER, WATSON ON RAMPAGE AS OZ LEAVE INDIA IN SIXES AND SEVENS

Bridgetown: India's grandiose plans of trapping Australia in a web of deceit backfired equally sensationally, here on a bright Friday afternoon.
Their gambit of going into the opening Super Eights match with just two speedsters, despite Kensington Oval's penchant for bounce and pace, was always laced with great risk; but they were surely being over-ambitious, if not downright cheeky, if they thought their part-time spinners could double as a fifthe nowler too.
Not surprisingly, they suffered a thumping 49-run defeat, while chasing 186; they also found a huge dent in their designs on a semifinal slot. Rohit Sharma, who was added a s a contingency to any batting malfunction, slammed a counter-attacking 79 (46b, 4x4, 6x6); but it was always going to be only a face-saver, rather than a match-saver.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni showed that he follows the norm too, when he chose to bowl on winning the toss. But he took his first chance by tossing the ball to Harbhajan singh:the crafty off-spinner bowled a deceptive maiden over too to raise hopes of a successful ploy.
The mayhem, however, was just round the corner. Strike bowler Ashish Nehra was greeted by David Warner (54) with a boundary; Shane Watson (72), then, added to the insult, smashing him for a six. The opening pair hoisted 104 runs in just 10 overs to suggest a true and complete rout. ishing rate till the 15th over, galloping away to 145 for 2; but the last five overs yielded only 39 runs to give India some respite, and even some hope.
Earlier, Harbhajan, conceded only three runs in his second over too; it promptly forced Dhoni to make his next gamble: he summoned Ravindra Jadeja to replace Nehra at the other end. A double-spin attack by the fourth over itself on a pace paradise: if nothing , it exposed India's hand completely.
The first three deliveries went off peacefully; but the next three sailed into the stands for spectacular sixes. The aerial assault had begun. Dhoni persisted with spin from one end; from the other, he furiously rotated his meagre resources, hoping to regain some sanity, somewhere. But, the Aussies had smelled blood; the bowlers continued to bowl short and they responded by swatting them like flies.
Jadeja was brought back in the 10th over. in a last ditch attempt; he was promptly handed the same treatment. This time, Warner took up the mantle, belting him for three sixes. Yuvraj Singh had to fill in with his own left-arm spin for the remaining two overs.
India needed a hand some start to make the chase: Murali Vijay waded through Dirk Nannes opening over, who came at him at over 90 miles per hour. Suddenly as the ball zipped past clueless bats, it looked the story was unfolding somewhere else.
Gautam Gambhir drove his first delivery and tickled another to pick up two fours. Nannes, however, delivered two quick blows in the next over to trigger the collapse; next over, Suresh Raina too fell, attempting another nain pull. By the fifth over, India had been reduced to 23 for four. Rohit, who came as high as Number four, was joined by Dhone: this was the last hope for a fightback.
But Dhoni too didn't last long, succumbing to the lone spinner. It was just a question of time after that. Rohit played many glorious shots, including a delectable cut and a handful of bludgeoning hits.
At one stage, there were even mumurs of a miracle victory. Sadly, the tail-enders, weighed down by the daunting target, kept attacking and tumbling.
In the end, Rohit remained unconquered on 79. India now play West Indies on Sunday in a must-win game for survival.

ALBIE MORKILL
Allrounder fires To Help South Africa Down Kiwis

Bridgetown (Barbados): Albie Morkel's quickfire 40 helped take South Africa to a 13 run win in their opening Super Eights match against New Zealand at the World Twenty20 here on Thursday.
Morkel's innings at the Kensington Oval lasted just 18 balls but still reatured five sixes and helped south Africa pile up a total of 170 for four. Together with AB de Villiers, who finished on 47 not out, he shared a stand of 72 in six overs as they built on a solid foundation laid by the top order. De Villiers faced 39 balls with two sixes and a four.
New Zealand's reply suffered an early setback when danger man Brendon McCullum was brilliantly caught in the first over by a diving Herschelle Gibbs in the covers off Charl Langeveldt.
And they rarely looked like threatening South Africa's score, finishing on 157 for seven. Number three batsman Martin Guptill might have gone for nought when be edged the bowler just short of Johan Botha at backward point.
Guptill eventually fell to off-spinner Botha, in for dropped left-armer Roelof van der Merwe, for 18 when he holed out in the deep to Albie Morkel. And 51 for two was transformed into 67 for three when Jesse Ryder, on the charge, was beaten in the flight by Botha and chipped a catch to de Villiers at mid-off to end an innings of 33.
Botha certainly justified his inclusion with two wickets for 23 runs in three overs. Gibbs then took another excellent catch as Ross Taylor (19) flicked Morne Morkel on the legside and New Zealand were 87 for four in the 13th over. Garethe Hopkins uppercut langeveldt for six high over third man but, two balls later, Scott Styris struck the seamer straight to Gibbs at midwicket.
The Black Caps required 36 from 12 balls and then 27 from six. South Africa captain Graeme Smith then brought on Albie Morkel for his only over of the match and he was promptly hoisted over deep square leg by New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.
However, Albie Morkel kept his head and the target became an impossible 22 off three balls. Earlier, the all-rounder was equally adept at striking left-arm spinner Vettori over long for six or depositing paceman Tim  Southee for three sixes in an over.
South Africa, who won the toss, saw Smith open alongside Jacques Kallis. The pair shared a first wicket stand of 40, featuring some well struck boundaries, before Smith holed out to deep midwicket for 14.
And 40 for one became 55 for two when Kallis, who made 31,m was brilliantly caught by a diving Southee at third man after uppercutting Oram. Gibbs, recalled in place of Loots Bosman, looked in good touch while making 30 before he topedged asweep off Nathan McCullum to Brendon McCullum.
Both group E rivals continue their bid for a semi-final spot here on Saturday when New Zealand face defending champions Pakistan and South Africa play England who beat Pakistan by six wickets earlier on Thursday.

Job stress raises heart
disease risk in women

High-flying career women with stressful jobs are twice as likely to suffer from heart disease and the risk is greater with younger women, a new study has claimed. Researchers at Glostrup University Hospital in Denmark found that women who feel the pressure at work is "much too high" are 50% more likely to suffer heart disease than their peers who say their job is manageable. Even after lifestyle factors such as smoking are taken into account, the study found that the additional risk remains high, at 35% and those who said work pressures were a "little too high" were 25% more likely to suffer heart disease, the Daily Mail reported.

Stomach cancer up in young adults:

Scientists are puzzling over a surprising increase in stomach cancer in young white adults, while rates in all other American adults have declined.Chances for developing stomach cancer  are stil very low in young adults but the incidence among 25- to 39-year-old whites nonetheless climbed by almost 70% in the past three decades, a study found. National Cancer Institute researchers and colleagues examined new cases from 1977 to 2006 of cancer in the lower stomach, which can be caused by chronic infection with a common bacteria called H pylori, It also causes stomach ulcers.

Galactic star formation slowing down:

New star formations in spiral galaxies such as the Milky Way have declined five-fold in the last three billion light years, the first findings of the European Space Agency's Herschel telescope revealed on Thursday. While scientists already knew that star formation was more prolific billion of light years ago, the Herschel telescope has for the first time been able to start measuring the rate of decline, scientist Steve Eales said at the launch. "Three billion light years ago, galaxies were forming stars at... five times the rate we know today," he said.

HEALTH ISSUE: RUDE SHOCK

Vaccine may trigger early
start of epilepsy in infants

Hong Kong: Childhood vaccines may trigger early onset of a severe form of infant epilepsy. but researchers say the disorder is caused by defective genes and lifesaving vaccines should not be withheld from these children.

The researches said they feared the study would scare parents away from getting their children vaccinated but stressed the babies in the study would likely have developed seizures within months regardless of the vaccine.
The disorder, called Dravet syndrome, generally begins with seizures around six months of age. These children have poor language and motor skills and difficulty relating to others. Up to 80% of them have mutations in the SCNIA gene.
Anne McIntosh of the University of Melbourne's Epilepsy Research Center and colleagues examined the medical records of 40 Dravet syndrome patients with the genetic mutation who had been vaccinated against whooping cough, or pertussis. They said 30% of these children developed their first seizures within two days of receiving the vaccine but symptoms of their disorder were no worse than the other children who had their first seizures later on.
"In about 30% of people, it appears that (first seizures) came on rather quickly after the vaccination. But the over all message is that the outcome to the patients did not differ regardless of whether the onset of the disorder was shortly after the vaccination, or later on. These kids already had that genetic abnormality, (so) regardless of the relationship with the vaccine, they would have had that disorder happen to them anyway," she added.
"Essentially, there is no proof that people should not be vaccinated....from concerns about it causing the onset of that disease," she said.
