Arindam at Cannes

When management Guru Arindam Chaudhuri's Bangla film Dosor was an official entry in the Cannes Film Festival two years ago, he couln't make it to the fest.
However, this time around, he made up for it as he walked the red carpet on the opening day for the premier of the Hollywood flick, Robin Hood, along with the likes of Salma Hayek and Russell Crowe.
"Being at Cannes certainly makes your movie business aspirations go up by quite a few notches," says Arindam.
The management guru was invited to Cannes to speak on 'India as a Shooting Destination' He created quite a flutter there by saying that sooner or later, most of the Hollywood biggies will be owned either by the Indians or the Chinese, so the West might as well take India very seriously and try to 'profit from India. He was bang on target, for, this was the focus of the topic there that day.

Tamannaah - ON A BREAK

SHOP TILL
YOU DROP!

Guess what Kollywood's hot and happening girl Tamanaah is up to? Well, after a series of hits like Padikkathavan, Ayan, Paiyaa and Sura with top-rung Kollywood heroes, the pretty young thing is finally taking a well-deserved break.
Yes, Tammu has got a lucky break as one of her Telugu film's shooting schedules has been postponed. The actress has gone to the US and is having a whale of a time in New Jersey, chilling out with her relatives and friends.
The trip was long overdue as her parents have been wanting to take her brother and her for a break in the US, where her grandmother and close relatives live.
The girl, meanwhile, is also indulging in some retail therapy and can't stop raving about the shopping malls there.

Vidya Balan - GLASS APART

'Shady' Vidya

We thought Vidya Balan's favourite accessories were her signature jhumkas, chunky neck pieces and the rudraksha, she so stylishly flaunts. But wait... there is a dark side to this Southern beauty, too.
The actress is crazy about sunglassess - of all shapes, sizes and super-stylish brands. The lady can resist shopping for clothes, shoes,, bags and even cool kurtas and designer saris, but the minute she spots dark glasses, she turns into a 'shades shopaholic'. Recently, while shooting in Delhi, she surprised her staff when she went on a shades shopping spree.
Well Vids, we aren't as excited about your wide-range of sexy shades, How will we look at those lovely, deep, brown eyes if you wear them?

Dia Mirza - CHANGING WEATHER

Dia Mirza's weather check

The grapevine has it that things reportedly got too hot for Dia Mirza in Mumbai, with everyone suggesting that Arshad Warsi and she are more than 'good friends' and Arshad's wife Maria even walking out on him.
To beat the heat (and other things), Dia has gone on vacation to the US and is now communicating with her fans through micro-blogging. What is funny is that since the actress has nothing to talk about (no films, for sure), she is actually talking about the weather!
She said, "I did a thing where I was up at, like, 5.30 in the morning in New York. I said, 'Great day in NYC. How is it? Where you are?" I got, like, 80,90,100 responses, going.'I'm in Argentina....,' now i've got this global weather check happening here." Looks like with her films not really setting the cash registers ringing. Dia has decided to don the weather reporter's cap. And also keeping her in the news are her alleged romances with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and our own Arshad Warsi.

Paris Hilton - NOT AGAIN

    Paris's oops
moment!

There has to be some drama where Paris Hilton goes. And at Cannes... there was plenty. the hotel heiress looked all prim and proper in a flowing, strapless, blue designer dress when she arrived at the Chopard 150th anniversary party in Cannes.
But when she sent to the nightclubs of the French riviera, her dress was everywhere except on her. The socialite soon realised that her floor length gown wasn't quite the right thing for a night of partying.
As she danced on stage, the 29-year-old felt her low-cut dress slipping down and she repeatedly kept pulling it up. She did look like she was worried that her assets would spill out of her dress! Amidst all this, the revelers also got to sec her derriere when she lifted her dress high enough so that she could do a little jig on the dance floor.

A Still From SINGAM

VICTORY
ROAR
...that's what director Hari is waiting to hear, even as his Singam, starring Suriya, gears up for release

Directing a movie featuring popular stars is always a challenge. For, the director, apart from narrating a story in a manner he wishes to, also has to meet the huge expectations of the fans of such stars.
But director Hari seems undaunted by the challenge and is confident about the manner in which he has treated the story of his next film Singam, featuring Suriya, Anushka and Prakash Raj.
After Kaakha Kaakha and Saamy, expectations from both Suriya and Hari have gone up. Will Singam measure up and will it be like one of the two? Says the director. "Yes, it will be an adorable cop film. But no, Suriya's role in this film will not be like the cop roles in the other films, In fact, my biggest challenge was to ensure that his role does not remind one of his earlier cop characters."
He adds, "Singam is a film about a silent and helpful person, who shows his aggressive side when provoked. Suriya plays a person, who is forced to enter the police force, not because of his love for the profession but because of his father's wish. However, he begins loving it. The man, who keeps to himself initially, discloses a completely different side when provoked. Singam is all about his transformation."
Sources say the movie has all the commercial elements and is action-packed. Ask Hari about it and he replies, "Yes, It's true. In fact, the entire session post the interval will be intenxe."
Talking about the performances of his crew members, he performed all the stunts and did not opt for body doubles.Anushka plays a modern college girl who has traditional beliefs. Prakash Raj plays the villain: I firmly believed that no one else could do this character as well as he could."
The film has been shot in several places and features the cops of five different states in the country. Commenting on the difficulties involved while shooting for the film, Hari says, "We shot at several places including Tuticorin and it being a small town, people would gather the minute they knew Suriya was shooting. So, we had to shoot discreetly and swiftly. Moreover, we did not use sets."
It's not just the difficulties that the director remembers. He also thanks the co-operation extended by an entire village. Explains he, "We had shot a sequence in a village near Tuticorin and we had to make it look like it had been who in AP.The villagers allowed us to make all the changes we needed to their homes, We were really touched by their gesture.
