Li Shizhen (1518-1593), was one of the greatest physicians and pharmacologists in Chinese history. His major contribution to medicine was his forty-year work, which is found in his epic book the Bencao Gangmu. He is also considered to be the greatest naturalist of China, and was very interested in the proper classification of herb components. The book has details about more than 1,800 drugs, including 1,100 illustrations and 11,000 prescriptions. The book was reprinted frequently and five of the original editions still exist.

On October 21, 1854, she and a staff of 38 women volunteer nurses, trained by Nightingale and her aunt Mai Smith, were sent to Turkey, some 545 km across the Black Sea from Balaklava in the Crimea, where the main Britishj camp was based.

Some were rulers who tried to make their subjects' lives better. some a lot of money in business and spent it on setting up schools, libraries and hospitals.  Movie stars, sporting heroes and other public figures have used their fame to draw the world's attention to disease or disasters and have worked to raise money to heop sufferers.

                      Mother Teresa born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (1910-1997) in Poland, was a Roman Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. for over forty years, she ministered to the needs of the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying people in Calcutta (Kolkata). As the Missionaries of Charity grew under Mother Teresa's leadership, they expanded their ministry to other countries. "Between 1948 and 1970, Mother Teresa's centres and colonies in Kolkata alone saved nearly 8,000 lives. By the 1970s she had become internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless.

            Vidya Balan, who plays Sabrina Lal's character in No One Killed Jessica, was to meet Sabrina, but director Rajkumar Gupta has decided against it. apparently Gupta is disinclined to let Vidya pick up Sabrina's mannerisms because he wants Vidya to interpret the tole in her own way.

A source close to the film confirmed this. "Gupta felt that if Vidya met Sabrina, she might be her clone in front of the camera. He didn't want it that way, " No One Killed Jessica, is based on model Jessica Lal's murder. Kareena was approached to play the slain model but she declined. ?Now, a new corner has been roped in to do the controversial role in the film, which also has Rani mukherji in its cast.

Shooting for Priyan's Garan Hawa, Bipasha fit perfectly into her role of sari-clad Gita and the backdrop of Karaikudi, where the shoot was held. Onblookers who thought they'd see their oftimagined girl in hot pants or minimal sports wear outdoing men of the streets of this dusty south Indian town, were surprised to see Bipasha in a sari. They held their gaze all the same as the actress took time off to chat with Chennai Times.

GARAM   HAWA....

Is an issue-centric film. It's very real and many people had doubts about a glam girl fitting into the role of this Bihari girl Gita. But I think it's a great opportunity for me to do something this different.

WORKING WITH AJAY DEVGN.....

I've done many films with him and he's a fun person to work with. Not many people may know that Ajay is a prankster on the sets. Also, he makes acting seem effortless and that rubs off on his co-actress, He's an actor who can switch on and switch off I am a lot like that too and so, we get along well.

FITNESS VIDEO....

This is an entrepreneurial venture of mine, but no, films won't take a backseat. I'[ve been at it for the last six years and thought it was about time I did something about it. I've been making small videos for my friends and when I found that they helped them, i decided to go ahead in a big way and reach out to housewives who can't make it to the gym, students who can't afford to go to one, and generally people with varied schedules. And no, John's not making a video of his own, And, even if he wants to make one, he'll have to make it under my banner (laughs).

JOHN'S FAIRNESS CREAM....

I'm the one who's dark skinned! John's fair. But I have no problems with him endorsing fairness creams. Fact is he's actually endorsing a product that leaves you acne and blemish-free and that's not too bad a thing.

SRK too has a cute butt, but John's is cuter.

LOVE TAMIL NADU....

I love the food here, especially Chettinadu cuisine. I've never been to this part of the south before and I plan to visit Madurai this time around, I heard there's a great yoga centre there and I plan to visit this place.

LANGIAGE PROBLEMS....

Is what keeps me from doing Tamil films. I did one, Sachien, and I found the language very difficult. It'd be a very difficult hob for me.

ACTOR JIIVA : CHINA REFUSED VISA

Actor Jiiva has been refused a visa by the Chinese Embassy and it seems to be all in the name

When K V Anand replaced Simbu with Jiiva for his Ko, he thought his troulbes were over. The director settled on Jiiva on an emergency basis because the schoot of a song was fixed for February 10 in northeast China, bordering  Monglia. However, the latest is that the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi has refused to issue a visa to Jiiva, thereby throwing Anand's song schedule out of gear.

When contacted, Jiiva kept mum on why he was denied a Chinese visa. According to sources, Jiiva's name is Amar Chowdhary of his passport, a Muslim sounding name. And it so happens that shoot was to take place in an area that is witnessing  ethnic strife.

Despite this development. Anand and his 20 unit members (including heroine Karthika) went ahead and shot in the scenic locales of China for five days and came back to the city on Sunday. Says Anand, specking exclusively to CT, "we shot in and around Harbin, the tenth largest city in China a place where no Indian film has been shot before." Parts of a song were pecturised on Karthika by cinematographer Richard Natahn and choreographer Gayatri Reghy in freezing harish weather conditions.

Anand adds, "We shot on the eve of the Chinese New Year. We'll go back and shoot with Jiiva at a latter stage. While all of us were going on a work visa, we had applied for a short-term visa for Jiiva as he came into the project only at the last minute. We were told at the Chinese Embassy that short-term visa had to be issued by Beijing derectly and it would take time as it was the New Year season there."

Anand might also have to find alternate locations in India for Ko.Which has a strong autobiographical feel as it is about the life of a Chennai-based magazine photographer.

India  Vs South Africa 2nd Test Match at Kolkata Eden Gardens.

Vereder Sehwag Congratulates Sachin Tendulkar on this Country at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Sehwag scored 165 while Sachin made 106 in the 2nd Test against South Africa.

This was Sachin's 4th Test hundred in 4 successive matches and his first ton at Eden Gardens. He has now notched up 47 Testtons, eight more than Ricky Pointing.

Sehwag blasted hits 19th Test century, which was also his 13th 150+ score. Sehwag nearly broke the record for fastest Test 50, scoring his first 44 runs in 22 deliveris 

The duo added 249 runs for the third wicket and kept south Africa wicketless for 57.4 overs. At stumps on the 2nd day, India was 342/5, 46 runs ahead of South Africa.
