Amitabh Bachchan: WHAT WENT WRONG?

Big B in blame game But trade disagrees that sharper editing could have saved mani Ratnam's film         Blame it on the editing.Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan did exactly that on the weekend. In his tweets with Filmfare editor Jitesh Pillaai, the concerned father expressed the view that it was the editing of Mani ratnam's Raavan that led to the inconsistency of the performance of the protagonist Abhishek Bachchan.        Amitabh implied that had the film not been so "sadly edited". Abhishek's erratic behaviour (and all that jazz about his 10 heads) would have been easier for the common man to comprehend. One of the Big B's tweets read: "Lot of merited film deited out, causing inconsistent performance and narrative, but what presentation!"         However, trade specialists don't seem to be in tandem with the legend's views. Says trade guru Taran Adarsh. "the film (Hindi) opened to a weak response. It has collected only 45% of what Kites and Raajneeti  collected over the opening weekend. It has fared very average in the UK too."         Taran who has been following Amitabh on the micro-biogging site says, "When a film flops everything about it seems at fault. It is very easy to blame the editing. But, according to9 me. Raavan  failed because the script was too linear, It was stretched, If the editing is consistent, it can make a film slicker, it can make a performance look better, But inconsistent editing can't save a bad performance. In my opinion, Aishwarya was good in the film, however, Abhishek lacked the maturity for this role. If the editing was bad, then even Ash's performance would have got diluted."        The other trade consultant Amod Mehra, adds, "Everything about Raavan except the cinematography was mediocre." He feels the performances of all the lead actors was strictly below average.        A staunch supporter of the editor of Raavan, Sreekar Prasad, says, "Sreekar has won 11 National Awards, So to blame his editing is the lamest excuse one can throw."        Whatever the implications, the debate continues. Unfortunately, Bollywood feels that Mani's labour of love doesn't merit the debate either, It is reportedly a dead duck.

The Tomb Raider star , who has been a UN Goodwill Ambassador since 2001, is an avid supporter of the annual day to highlight the plight of refugees around the globe.       She recently roured the Ecuador-Colombia horder for the first time in eight years where she visited women and children who had been forced to flee their homes due to conflicts in the South American region Jolie apparently left tywo days later after talking to ?Ecuador's President Rafael Correa and other government officials. It is said that between 50,000 and 170,000 Colombian refugtees are living close to the border because of the ongoing conflicts in the country, which have raged since the 1960s.

Vijay: BIRTHDAY BOY

THE BIG DAY!       Actor Vijay was the talk of the town yesterday. After all, it was his birthday and his fans couldn't resist from celebrating their Ilaiyathalapathy's big day.        Vijay, for his part, didn't fail to surprise his fans. The actor truned up at one of the government hospitals in the city and gifted the babies (the lucky new borns who get to share their birthday with the Kollywodd superstar) a gold ring. The actor then went one step further and posed for pictures with the families on the new borns.      Not to be left behind, the doctors and hospital staff, who were pleasantly surprised at the star's arrival, grabbed the opportunity to get pictures taken with him, while the birthday boy sought blessings from an elderly lady in the hospital.        Needless to say, movie front, Vijay is busy with Kaavalkaran which is a remake of the Malayalam film bodyguard.       And  that's not all - we understand that the actor, after a long gap, is doing two films at the same time! The other film, titled Velayudham, will be directed by Jayam Raja and produced by Aascar Ravichandhran.This movie, we hear, will feature two girls (Genelia D'souza and Hansika Motwani) as the star's leading ladies.       Besides these two flicks, there's the Tamil remake of the Hindi superhit 6 Idiots that Vijay is all set to start soon.       With such a variety of films to look forward to. fans of Vijay are hoping that their Ilaiyathalapathy will bounce back from his last debade  Sura in style.
