Aishwarya will be working with the British actress in a commercial, to be shot in Italy. This is for a brand Ash endorses. In the past. Aishwarya has worked with Hollywood actors such as Jean Reno, Steve Martin and Emily Mortimer. But clearly, this one is a special feather in her cap. Aishwarya has met Kate in the past but very briefly and finds her very pretty. She has also watched many of Kate's films. Shooting with her is thus something Ash is eagerly waiting for.

Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in a still from Endhiran

Music to the ears
Fans of the Rajini-Shankar-Rahman combination have a lot to cheer about...

Last Thursday, Shankar completed the entire shoot of his magnum opus Endhiran, with the shoot of the last song in a studio setup picturised on Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai and choreographed by Remo. The leading director wrote in hgis blog,:It was a very, very happy momint for everyone, I think this is the first film where I am doing the pumpkin breaking pooja (poosanika udaikiradhu) with the lead stars (Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai) present on the occasion." Later, media baron and producer Kalanithi Maran celebrated the occasion by throwing a big party for the entire unit.
The very next day, further good news awaited the director as composer A R Rahman handed him the master music copy of the film. A delighted Shankar wrote, "Rahman gave the Tamil songs final mix master to us. It is amazing, rocking and sounding as big and grand as the budget of the movie. The first song clearly indicates that out A R Rahman is an Oscar winner, I hope that out combination lives up to expectation once again." Shankar has also made it clear that the audio of the film will be released by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, there is a fierce bidding war going on between a Mumbai-based audio major and a Chennai-based company for the audio rights of the film. The grapevine has it that the audio of Endhran  has been snapped up for a record price, somewhere in the Rs 7 to 8 crore range. This is the highest ever paid for an audio in south Indian film history, a price almost on par with recent Bollywood music acquistitions.
A music industry tracker said, "The price that the market is talking about is a new benchmark in south Indian films' audio market. The music of sivaji,  the previous Rajinikanth-Shankar-Rahman combo film, was marketed by the producers themselves and so, we do not have an exact rate for it. Raavanan was purchased for around Rs2 crore. It's phinomenal that the rights of Endhran went for more than three times that price."

Health Issue: About Babies Brain

Babies' brain growth reflects evolution

Washington: Watching how human brain grows between infancy and adulthood is almost similar to watching evolution in action , says a new study.

Researchers at the Washingon University found that the brain regions that expand the most during infancy and childhood are the same parts that expanded the most during evolution as humans diverged from other primates.
It's not an absoute one-to-one correlation, but the overlap is so strikjing that it's hard to ignore, said David Van Essen, who led the study. Every region expanads as the brain matures, but on-third of the cerebral cortex expands approximately twice as much as other cortical areas as an infant matures into ayoung adult.

Halth Issue: Brain Injury

Injury's not the end, human brain can rewire itself

Melbourne:  Australian scientists have claimed that the human brain has the ability to "rewire itself" and the findings could revolutionize the way brain injuries are treated in the future.
The Hobart-based Menzies Research Institute has been investigating how the brain  responds to trauma, particualarly what occusrs within the cerebral cortex or the outer layer of grey matter.
"The most unique finding that we've found is that another group of thiese nerve cells are actually able to remodel their processes and change their shape in order to respond to the injury," Tracey Dickson, a senior researcher at the institute, said.
It appears the cerebral cortex was capable of significant remodelling following injury, she said, Dickson said that the changes happen in healthy parts of the brain.
"Previously a lot of people have thought that once you've had an injury to your brain, there's not much that can happen," ABC news quoted her assaying. The research is now focused on trying to identify ways in which the healing response could be boosted, creating a new therapy to treat brain injury.

HEalth Issue: Teenagers stay away from bing-drinking Why?

Teenage binge drinking hits genes, caused osteoporoses
Chicago: In one more reason why teenagers should stay away from bing-drinking, a new study has claimed the habit may increase their risk of developing osteoporosis besides other long-lasting health hazards.
The study on rats by researchers at Loyola University Health System in Chicago found that heavy drinking disrupts hundreds of genes involved in bone formation, which may lead to future osteoporosis and bone fractures.
"Lifestyle-related damage done to the skeleton during young adulthood may have repercussions lasting decades," the researchers wrote in the journal Alcohol and Alcohlism. Lead researcher John Callaci said although data from animals don't directly traslate to people," the findings certainly suggest that this could be a problem with humans".
Bone mass is lost throughout adult life as part of the ageing process. Thus, anything that inhibits the build up of bone mass during the critical years of adolescence and young adulthood could increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in later life, the scientists said.
binge drinking is defined as a woman having at least four drinks or a man having at least five drinks on one occasion. Heavy binge drinkers can consume 10 to 15 drinks. The habit typically begins around age 13 and peaks between 18 and 22, before gradually decreasing.

News: The Cloth That Listens to you

Now, a cloth that listens to you
MIT Scientists Fabric That Can Hear As Well As Emit Sound

New York: Thsi could give a whole new meaning to the pharase power dressing. Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a cloth that can hear and emit noise.
The team, led by MIT professor Yoel Fink, has reached "a new milestone on the path to functional fibers: fibers that can detect and produce sound", MIT said in a statement, The development, described in the August issue of Nature Materials, transforms the usual passive nture of textiles into a virtually all singing, all-dancing version.
According to MIT, "applications could include clothes that are themselves sensitive microphones, for capturing speech or monitoring bodily functions, and tiny filaments that could measure blood flow in capilaries or pressure in the brain."
The less-than-one-micrometer-wide fibers could be inserted into organs or the cardiovascular system to monitor for biomarkers or blood flow, whild their ultrasound-like ability to preform acoustic sensing and carry infrared light essentially maked them tiny ultrasound imagers.
The decade old research project aims to "develop fibers with ever more sophisticated properties, to enable fabrics that can interact with their environment" MIT said.
The new space-age cloth, it said, can not only listen, but make sound, "You can actually hear them, these fibers," Noemie Chocat, part of the lab team, said.
"If you connected them to a power supply and applied a sinusoidal current, then it would vibrate. And if you make it vibrate at audible requencies and put it cloe toyour ear, you could actually hear different notes or sounds coming out of it," Chocat added.
When stretched, these strands could be used to make clothes that act as a microphone or generate electricity. The new fibers are based on a similar plastic to that used in microphones. However, the MIT researchers manipulated the fluorine content to ensure its molecules stayed lopside. That imbalance maked the plastic piezoelectric, meaning it changes shape when an electric field is applied.
"In addition to wearable microphones and biological sensors, applications of the fibers could include loose nets that monitor the flow of water in the ocean and large-area sonar imaging systems with muc higher resolutions,"MIT said. The fibers aren't easy to make. They're produced from much larger cylinders that are "drawan" through a small aperture at higher temperatures. MIT experts manged the task using a number of techniques, including the use of an electically conducting graphite-based plastic and a strong electric field to align necessary molecules.

Cricket @ Sri Lanka Tour

3 tons hit India hard
Pacers Go Wicketless As SL Board President's XI Score 432/5

Colombo: A blunt Indian bowling attack stood exposed as Sri Lanka Board President's XI scored a mammoth 432 for five on the opening day of the three-day warm up game here on Tuesday. Sri Lankan top order crushed the Indian attack disdainfully as opener Upul Tharanga (116), Thilina Kandambi (101) and Thilan Samaraweera (102) smashed quickfire centuries to have the number one Test side on the mat. Dinesh Chandimal (5) and Kuashjal Silva (6) were at the crese for Sri Lanka when stumps were drawn for the day at the Colts Cricket Club Ground.
The hosts scored at a furious pace, with a run-rate close to five, as more than half of the runs came through boundaries. India badly missed injured pace duo of Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth as none of the six bowlers used by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni could bowl economically let alone trouble the rival batsmen.
Spin spearhead Harbhajan Singh's absence from the line-up due to viral fever just compounded the fitness problems for India as the other tweakers failed to make an impression. Although Pragyan Ojha (3/133) and Amit Mishra (2/120) shared five wickets between them but together they gave away 253 runs in 50 overs they bowled.
Pacers Ishant Sharma and Abhimnayu Mithun went wicket less and it was not before the 35th over of the innings that India got its first success. Ojha dismissed left-handed Tharanga but by thgat time he had raised a solid opening partenrship of 188 runs with Lahiru Thirimanne (66) as Sri Lanka made a bright start after winning the toss.
Ojha struck for the second time after four overs when he scapled Thirimanne but there was hardly a moment to rejoice after that for the Indians. The next two batsmen Kandambi and Samaraweera frustrated the Indian bowlers by raising a huge 180-run stand for the third wicket. India struck thrice towards the end with Mishra removing Kandambi and Ojha sending back Samaraweera but by that time Lanka was in total command.

HEART TO HEART: Asin

ASIN WINS HEARTS IN SRI LANKA
The actress charms the island nation with her genuineness

Asin don't leave us, stay with us," screamed the young girls at the Siriliya Sevana orphanage in Vavuniya. Sri Lanka, on Sunday. In a quiet gesture of solidarity with displaced people - something that no  one from tamil Nadu and attempted in the island nation - Asin stayed back in Colombo even after the crew of Ready wound up and left the island nation. Asin, who is facing the threat of a red card from the Nadigar Sangam for daring to shoot in Sri Lanka for the Bollywood film ready co-starring Salman Khan, had earlier evinced interest in visiting war torn areas to Namal Rajapaka, MP and son of the Lankan president. She had also set in motionan eye camp in Vavuniya along with Salman Khan's being Human Foundation.
On Sunday, Asin's wish came true and she became the first international star to visit former LTTE  strongholds of northern and eastern Lanka, when she took a chopper in the company of Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, wife of the Lankan president. The first halt was at the eye camp in Vavuniya, to oversee the surgery concucted by a team of five surgeons from India, and to interact with the patients.
"I want to do whatever it takes to help these people regain their eyesight," said Asin, "We will continue to periodically host these eye camps across the Northern and Eastern regions Sri Lanka until all the 10,000 registered patients have been attended to," she added. Asin hopes to bring in more doctors and medication in the secong phase in November. Asin's agenda is to reach out to people, simply and effectively. "To me the best moment was when one recovering patient awoke after his operation and removed his eye patch only to be surprised to see his favourite actress standing beside his bed. The elderly patient kept asking the nurses if it was a dream! That one moment made my entire journey to Sri Lanka worthwhile. I knew I was able to not only provide sight to an elderly father in need but I was also able to reach out to the people in need and bring them genuine happiness in the little way I could," said Asin.
Peals of laughter were heard during Asin's entire stay at the Children's home and when the time came for her to leave, a lot of children were in tears, begging her not to leave. "Five more minutes akka... five more minutes,,,please,,,,, cried the young ones, "Please bring Vijay, Suriya, Ajith and all the other actors next time you come." added the girls in between their sobs. Asin departed with a heavy heart, promising to convey the message.

Health Issue: Cancer In Tracks

Now, a jab to stop cancer in tracks

London: In what could be called a major break through, scientists claim to have created a jab which can cure even the most deadly cancers - by shrinking tumours and stopping them from spreading.
The injection, which is being tested on patients with breast, pancreatic, cervical and ovarian cancers, could hit the market in as little as five years, its creator Prof Ray Iles of Middlesex University said.
The drug, which is being developed in conjunction with US firm Celidex Therapeutics, revs up the immune system, directing it to destroy Human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG which is made by some breast, bowel, ovarian, cervical tumours andaround half of bladder and pancreatic cancers.
The drug shrinks tumours and, crucially, stops them from spreading, or metastasising, the 'Daily Mail' reported. Prof Iles sadid: "Not only are you casuing the cancer to shrink, it is not metastasising. If you come in with chemotherapy and surgery, you've got a cure."
Tests on animals have already had "extremely good" results and preliminary trils on people show it to be safe. The jab is now being given to 60 men and women newly diagnosed with bladder cancer.
Further, larger trials will be needed before it is deemed suitable for wide fertility-spread use. Professor Iles said: "the vaccine has the potential to help us make rapid advances in the treatment of this invasive cancer." The destruction of hCG would also mean the jab acted women's fertility should return to normal within a year after completing treatment.

Health Issue: DOUBLE MORTALITY RATE

'Home births increase risk for babies'

Home birthing has become an increasingly popular option among many women who desire a less clinical setting for their delivery, and an experience with fewer medical interventions (such as drugs and epidurals)
New research, however, suggests that babies born at home have an elevated risk of death compared to those born in hospitals. The research, conducted by Dr. Joshph Wax and colleagues at the Mine Medical Center in Portland, was published by the Amercan Journal of Obstertrics & Gynecology and based on a metanalysis of international studies. It was the largest study to date, examining 342,056 planned home births and 207,511 planned hospital deliveries.
(The "planned" criterion was important to distinguish between mothers who chose to give birth at home, and those who intended to deliver in a medical setting but were unable to for logistical or financial reasons.) The authors found that women who gave birth at home had lower risk factors overall, fewer infections, less hemorrhanging, and so on, But, the research finds, this can come ata a cost to the safety of their child: "Of significant concern, these apparent benefits are associated with a doubling of the neonatal mortality rate overall and a near tripling among infants born without congenital defects," the researchers said. The research did not reveal exactly why newborn deaths were more likely with home births, however a high proportion of home-birth deaths were related to breathing problems.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists does not recommend home births, suggesting instead tht children born in hospitals are safer - if for no other reason than professional medical help is immediately available in case of complications.
