Wednesday, July 28, 2010

All in a day's work

Sir Ridley Scott wants people around the world to capture their lives on film on July 24 then post the videos on YouTube. The thousands of hours of footage will be edited down to make a feature length documentary. Life in a Day. Anyone lucky enough to have their work included in the film will be credited as co-director and 20 will be flown to the Sundance Film Festival, in Utah, in January, for the premiere. The Gladiator director who will produce the final film, said, "With the project, we're asking you to get up with your cameras and actually record your day, whatever it is. But it must be personal. That's what we're looking for," Last King of Scotland director Kevin MacDonald will be sorting through the footage and editing the film from the expected 10,000 submissions.
Macdonals said he went back to study the 1930s Mass Observation project in England that sought to create a document of the era by assembling observations from 500 citizens via diaries and questionnaires.
