Wednesday, June 23, 2010

'I am ready for K-town'

Pretty actress Sneha Ullal who entertained the Kollywood audience with Ennai Theriyuma oppsite Manchu Manoj Kumar. was so busy last week that she didn't even have the time to check mesages on her mobile phone.
No, she was not shooting for any magnum opus, but was busy managing her home in Mumbai. "my mother has gone to Oman to be with my dad house," she says and elaborates, "Shooting for a film is much easier as you can relax once you finish your work. But, at home, I need to supervise the maids and that's not an easy job. Then, one which are so complicated and added to that I had to look after our dog. I found it really hectic."
However, Sneha cherishes those 'housesitting' moments. "Doing such homely chores keeps me grounded, "She admits. On the film front, the actress now has k-town with Jeevan. "I think Tamil will be a bit difficult but I am all set for a Kollywood stint," she points out.
Let's hope at least this time, the actress manages to make a mark in K-town, after her debut film Ennai Theriyuma  sank without a trace.

Sonam Kapoor: STYLISH

Sonam 'bags'
       a big one!

She is a fashista, alright. And her chic and ultra glam sense of dressing, along with her accessories et al, is the talk of all designer dressing rooms.
Even her hottie co-star, Imran Khan, thinks highly of his super-stylish co-star, though he did make a rather funny observation about Sonam kapoor's designer bags. Not so much the style, but the XL size. He teasingly said, "Sonam's bag is like a suitcase Her bags are all high-end, fancy designer things, and they are huge. You know when you go on an aircraft, what we call a carry-on-bag, she calls that a handbag, or purse."

Lara Dutta and Boman Irani - LAUGH OUT LOUD

Who's the funniest
              of them all?

Lara Dutta has been a part of many comedies, and has shared screen space with actors like Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Govinda and more recently, Riteish Deshmukh. But the one actor who she thinks challenges her the most when it comes to doing funny scenes is Boman Irani.
Says she, "Boman is so immensely talented. He raises the bar while performing a scene and you have to match it. Be it the character or the accent, he is just so good. And the best part is that he makes it look so easy." Looks like Boman's definitely the funniest of the lot for Lara!

SHORT CUTS

'Our brains light up with joy
when others agree with us'

Many may argue over this study, but our brains actually "light up" with pleasure when people agree with us. Researchers in Europe have carried out the study and found "reward" area of one's brain is activated when all people agree with one's opinions on any issue, 'Current Biology' reported. The study suggests scientists may be able to predict how much people can be influentced by the opinions of others on the basis or level of activity in the brain.

Early UK queen's remains found:

Bones discovered in an elaborate tomb in Germany are the remains of an early queen and member of the English royal family, British archaeologists have said. Two years after they were found in Magdeburg Cathedral in Germany, experts are now sure they belong to Eadgyth, grand daughter of Alfred the Great and half sister of Athelstan, the first king of all England. it means the bones are the oldest surviving remains of an English royal burial.

Health Issue: The Newborn Babies Sense of direction...

Within weeks of birth, babies
develop sense of direction

Washington: Newborn rats have an innate sense of direction, a new British research has reveled.

The study, conducted by scientists at University College London (UCL), demonstrates that the brain's representations of the sense of place and direction appear extremely early n the animal's development - within two weeks of being born - and seemingly independently of any experience of the world.
The directional signal, which allows the animal to know which way it is facing, is already at adult levels as soon as it can be measured in newborn rats, Sense of place is also present early, but improves with age. Representations of distance appear a few days later.
"The question of how we acquire knowledge of the outside world and form our sense of place in it is one that has challenged both scientists and philosophers for centuries," said Francesca Cacucci, UCL Institute of Behavioural Neuroscience, one of the authors of the paper appearing in Science. The notion of a pre-wired spatial framework has been around for some time but lacked empirical support.

News: The Oceans choking on Co2,...

Oceans choking on CO2, face irreversible changes

Sydney: The world's oceans are virtually choking on rising greenhouse gases, destroying marine ecosystems and breaking down the food chain - irreversible changes that have not occurred for several million years, a new study says.

The changes could have dire consequences for hundreds of millions of people around the globe who rely on oceans for their livelihoods. "It's as if the Earth has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day," said the report's lead-author Australian marine scientist Professor Ove Hoegh Guldberg.
The Australia US report published in Science magazine on Friday, studied 10 years of marine research and found that climate change was causing major declines in marine ecosystems.
Oceans were rapidly warming and acidifying, water circulation was being altered and dead zones within the ocean depths were expanding, said the report. There has also been a decline in major ocean ecosystems like kelp forests and coral reefs and the marine food chain was breaking down, with fewer and smaller fish and more frequent diseases and pests among marine organisms.
"If we continue down this pathway we get into conditions which have no analogue to anything we've experienced," said Hoegh-Gulberg, director of the the Global Change in stitute at The University of Queensland. Hoegh-Guldberg said oceans were the Earth's "heart and lungs", producing half of the world's oxygen and absorbing 30% of man-made carbon dioxide. More than 3.5 billion people depend on the ocean for their primary source of food and in 20 years this number could double, the report's authors say.

Health Issue: The Formula to Happiness

The formula to happiness:
O + (N x S) + Cpm/T + He

London: A British psychologist claims to have created a happiness formula to calculate the things which could make people feel good such as blooming flowers, holiday anticipation and fond memories of childgood summers.

According to the Daily Express, 45-year-old former Cardiff University lecturer Cliff Arnall has attached numbers to the factors and created a happiness formula - O + (N x S) + Cpm/T + He, When a value for being outdoors (O) is added to nature (N) multiplied by social interaction (S), added to chilhood summer memories (Cpm) divided by temperature (T), and added to holiday excitement (He) then the third Friday in June comes out as the optimal day for peak happiness.
Arnall, who runs happiness coaching clinics for health professionals and business, said: "The third Friday in June came out with the highest rating due to peaking happiness factors such as warm summer evenings outdoors, seeing friends more frequently, and excitement about holidays."
He added: "Society is becoming more materialistic, with people wanting to keep up with the Joneses. People shouldn't be asking "How much do I earn?' but "How happy am I?' The best advice I can give is work less and spend more time with people you love. That will make you happiest."

Asia Cup Cricket - @ Sri Lanka

BITTER RIVALS IN NEEDLE TIE
India, Pakistan Take On Each Other In Vital Asia Cup Match

Dambulla: There is an India vs Pakistan cricket clash coming up on Saturday after a long gap and naturally back home football will take a break. Cricket fans have waited long to see the south Asian neighbours play each other and the on going Asia Cup here is giving them just the impetus.
Both India and Pakistan look charged up for the key clash as this is only the second match between them after 26/11. That is why the added excitement about the match. The last time when they met at the Champions Trophy, India lost tamely by 54 runs to Pakistan. Memories of that defeat must haunt the Indian time now, before they play Pakistan, if they have to exact revenge.
The Pakistanis are also taking this match very seriously. Captain Shahid Afridi and his men realize the importance of winning this game. The result of this match will have a bearing on the finalists. The Indians, having secured one victory already in the series with a bonus point, are not as badly placed as the Pakistanis who could stay in the competition with a win.
There are old scored to settle as well/ For instance, the famous Shoab Akhtar versus Virender Sehwag battle of bat and ball is something not just south Asians, but cricket lovers from across the world enjoy watching. In fact, Akhtar and Sehwag's competition is symbolic of how the Pakistan pace bowlers have always been the perfect foil for India's attacking batsmen. The Pakistani pace duo of Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have reportedly chalked out plans to dimsiss Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir early so that they would be able to test the depth of the Indian middle-order and younngsters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the absence of Yunraj Singh.
The match excites fans because the Pakistanis tend to be an unpredictable side. Just as they've snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, they've also lost unexpectedly many a time. For instance, during the last match against the Lankans, Pakistan lost from a winning position. Luckily, for them, skipper Afridi has recovered well from cramps and is fit for the match. Pakistan's weakness is their middle-order which the Indians will try to exploit to their own advantage. Barring Afridi and Shoaigb Malik, the middle-order consists of new faces. According to team sources, Pakistan may bring in Imran Farhat to replace opener Shahzaib Hasan in the playing eleven. Wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal will open the innings with Salman Butt.

Mamta: CONFIDENT

NOT JUST PROFESSIONAL
...admits Mamta, on her 'friendly' relationship with composer Devi Sri Prasad

Actress Mamta might be a craze in Mollywood and Tollywood, winning accolades for her performance and setting the screen on fire with her oomph, but when it comes to Kollywood, she's still a rarity. But that's all going to change soon, she says. After all, Mamta's landed the female lead in Ameer's next directorial, Aadhi Bhagavan with Jayam Ravi/ "I've verbally confirmed that I will be doing Ameer's film. I will sign on the dotted line in a couple of days," says an excited Mamta.
She's been contemplating for the longest time about signing this movie. "I was initially confused. Ameer wanted bulk dates, but I was already committed to other movies. But my friends and family insisted I do this movie because they felt Ameer would give me my much-deserved break in Tamil. This means I have to opt out of two other movies, but it is a gamble I'm willing to take," she says.
She further adds, "Though I loved working in Sivappathigaram and Guru En Aalu, I was very disappointed with the result. People knew me as an actress, but I realised that was not how I wanted to focus on Kollywood."
Mamta's all praise for Ameer."Ameer's heroines always have a meaty role and at times, end up winning awards as well," she grins, "I've seen his Mounam Pesiyathey and Paruthiveeran... and I realised how serious he is about filmmaking."
But Aadhi Bhagavan, she informs, "Ameer chose not to reveal the script to bothhis lead characters. So, I only know that I play a modern NRI girl. I will join the team in September."
Apart from Aadhi Bhagavan, Mamta's hands are full with Mollywood projects. She's basking in the success of  Kadha Thudarunnu, directed by Sathyan Anthikadu. And then, there's Anwar with Prithiviraj and Prakash Raj. "I'm also working on a short film with Indrajith for director Vinod. This is the first time I'm working on an art film," she reveals.
Mamta's also in the news recently for her alleged relationship with music director Devi Sri Prasad."It's true he gave me my first break in playback singing, but our relationship is not entirely profiessional. I love him as a close buddy. He's so full of energy, a mini dynamite. And so am I.So, when two dynamites get together, there's bound to be an explosion," she signs off.
