STORY OF HANDICAPE

Sekhar is the son of a famous eye specialist in Chennai. He used to give alms to Muthu, a blind beggar, everyday on his way home from school. Though he gave alms to him, he knew very well that Muthu's sufferings would not be removed by his sight.

He wanted to tell his father about Muthu and ask him to help Muthu to regain his sight. One day he went near Muthu and called him softly, "Muthu." When Muthu heard Sekhar's voice he turned to him and said, "Sekhar, you give me alms every day. As long as people like you live in this world, it will never come to ruin. Some school children fool me, others ill treat me.You are also a school boy but you are different from others. If your parents come to know about your kindness, they will be very happy."

"Muthu, I don't give you a big amount. I spend a lot daily. But I feel quite happy and satisfied whenever I give you some alms. "Listen, I've come here to tell you something very important. My father is a famous eye-specialist. I'll make arrangements with him to help you regain your sight. Tomorrow itself your eyes can be tested. Come to our clinic tomorrow evening with your son. It is on the nest street, Door no. 23." so saying he dropped a 50 paise coin in Muthu's bowl.

SIMBU, ANAND AND KO !

"I will not be a part of K V Anand's film as there were far                 too many differences of opinion between us"
Simbu's out and Jiiva is in....there's a lot happening with K V Anand's upcoming Ko

The fact that simbu has opter out of kirector K V Anand's Ko, just three days before the shoot was to start in northern China, has created tremors in Kollywood. And, Anand's daring decision to replace Simbu with
Jiiva at the last moment and start shooting on the same day has made him a hero in the eyes of industry vererans. Most leading directors in Tamil cinema have called him up and congratulated him for his bold decision.

K V Anand became a hot director in Kollywood after his Suriya - Tamannaah starrer Ayan turned out to be the lone blockbuster of 2009. The best of the stars wanted to work with him, but he took nearly six months writing the script of his next film-along with his writer Subu-and gave it a working title (Ko), After completing the bound script, he lead role and zeroed in on Simbu.

Simbu, who was going for a total image change with Gautham Menon's Vinnaithandi Varunaaya, was bowled over by the script and gave bulk dates to Anand. On the surface, everything seemed to be hunky-dory, as the director was looking for a saleable hero in his mid 20's in keeping with the story while the young star wanted to work with a director who made "hits that were appreciated by the masses as well as the classes". However, problems soon arose between the director and hero over certain scenes in the film and the casting.

MASTER SURGEON LIVER TRANSPIANTATION

MASTER SURGEON
Dr. Mohamed Rela As A World-renowned Liver Transplant Surgeon

INTRODUCTION:
Dr. Mohamed Rela, a world-renowned liver transplant sugeion, and a Consultant Liver Transplant Surgeon at global Hospitals (Chennai and Hyderabad), who recently performed the country's first ever Auxiliary Liver Transplantation, in a conversation with SUDHIR SRINIVASAN, talks about his life, plans for the city, and of course, about liver transplantation.

As we waite to meet doctor Mohamed Rela at Global Hospitals, Sholinganallur, it's evident that we are about to meet somebody special. The man who recently performed the country's first-ever Auxiliary Liver Transplantation at Global Hospital, is quite sought-after. There are quite a few queuing outside to meet him. In the words of an employee at the hospital, "He is passionate about his job, and is probably one of the few doctors in the city who like to spend significant time with the patients. "and being a world-renowned expert liver surgeon, the cases that he handles are almost always very serious. When we eventually walk in to meet him, his British accent reminds us of his permanent job at Kinds College Hospital, London; a place where he worked in the largest liver transplant programme in Europe, and where, presently, he is the lead clinician for hepatobilary and pancreatic surgery, apart from heading the paediatric liver transplant programme.

Rela is now in the city, and is out t9o, in his words, "give back something to my country". In no time, he gets to the point and addresses the problem, that according to him, is rampant in not only the country, but in the world. "Less than 5% of the patients who qualify to have an Auxiliary Liver.

Transplantation, undergo the surgery,"he says. an auxiliary Liver Transplantation is the procedure by which a hemiliver is implanted into the abdomen of a person suffering from a liver disease. The fundamental difference between this procedure and a usual liver transplantation (Orthotopic Liver Transplantation) is fact while this procedure allows the native liver to recuperate (because of the regenerative ability of a liver), the latter requires that the entire liver be substituted with a new one. "The advantages of this procedure cannot be stressed enough, "says Dr Rela, "By following this procedure, the patient does not have to depend on immunosuppression drugs for life, as would happen if the Orthotopic Live.
