Katrina Kaif - ALL FOR A CAUSE

Kat's little
darlings

Bollywood hottie joins mother
in remote Tamil Nadu village
to eradicate female infanticide

Katrina Kaif took a private charter from Mumbai to visit the Azhagusirai village in Tamil Nadu, 29-km from Maduram, with one goal in mind...the eradication of female infanticide. CT joined her in this remote village where the Bollywood actress went unrecognized. "Her work with underprivileged children here has won her a permanent place in our hearts," said an office bearer of the Claretian Mercy Home, a project run to eradicate female infanticide and to shelter abandoned aged people.
How did Kat get involved in this cause? And, why did she choose a village so far flung from Mumbai to do her charity work in? It happens that the actress' mother, Sussanne Turquotte, heads an organisation called Relief Projects India (RPI) in Chennai. She has been fighting female infanticide for years and Katrina, who empathises with the cause, is lending a hand. Povery in Azhagusirai is so rife that families  cannot afford to raise a girl child because of the evil social practice of dowry prevalent there.
The girl child is either killed at birth or abandoned soon after. And it is here that the Claretian Mercy Home steps in with medical care, food, clothes and, most importantly, love, until the girl child is ready for adoption into Indian homes.
Katrina and Sussanne have supervised the construction of a neo-natal and baby care centre in Azhagusurai that receives abandoned babies who are cared for by locals under the supervision of the RPI and a Rev Fr Franz Xavier Dirberger from Germany, who founded the Claretian Mercy Home in 1986.
Katrina is so involved that she just started a department dedicated to provide skill development facilities to children who are in the toddler age. She calls this wing "Little Darlings'. The actress intends to start a separate home for the care of children who are not likely to be adopted because of physical disabilities. Sources indicate that Kat is also keen to start a similar project closer to Mumbai where she can invest her time and energies into bringing a ray of hope into the lives of the less fortunate. And you thought she was just a divaon screen!

Sameer Dattani and Minissha Lamba - WHAT'S UP?

What's in a game ?

We have our eyed and ears everywhere. Whether our lovely stars are romancing in the packed streets of New York City or the faraway villages of desiland, it doesn't bother us. We catch them re-hot, red-handed -- any, where. Here's one such 'scoopy' catch.
Apparently, while shooting for Well Done Abba, in a distant village, Minissha Lamba and Sameer Dattani would disapperar for three to four hours every day. When they were quizzed about it, all they would say is, "we were playing squash." Reacting to this incident, Boman Irani with casual candour added, "What Kinda squash were they playing? Even I wanted to play the game to be fit. I think you guys should investigate more."
Of course, he ended that with a playful wind. Quickly trying to defend his game (whatever sport that might be), Sameer exclaimed, "I have a girlfriend. What will I tell her? We didn't squash each other!"

Kamal Haasan and OSHO ROLE OF A LIFE TIME

KAMAL
                TO PLAY OSHO?

Almost two decades after his death in his ashram in Pune, charismatic yet controversial preacher Bhagwan Rajneesh -- also dubbed the 'Guru of Sec' due to his advocacy of free sex -- is to be resurrected in a film on his life. The grapevine has it that actors like Sanjay Dutt and Kamal Haasan are being considered to play the main lead. Italian film director Antonino Lakshen Sucameli -- an Osho disciple himself -- is in talks with production companies in both India and abroad to resume work on the film, which was conceptualised more than five years ago.

The 51-year-old, who was in Nepal this mo9nth to attend a course at the Osho Tapoban in Kathmandu, is now back in India to hole talks with Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt. A Swami Rishi from Osho Tapoban, Kathmandu said, "Part of the film will be shot in India."

Karan Johar - COFFE TIME

Karan needs more coffee

We love following KJo's tweets and now, his cool and candid columns. He's a talented director, alright. But what he's got that few can boast of is his gift of the gab, expecially, his conversations over coffee.
We've heard that he's planning another run of his celebrated talk show. This time, he will double the glam and star quotient (though we wonder if it can get starrier than this). Well, what interests us is really the conversation. Ans we like our coffee really strong (with some gossip).
So Karan, give us a shot of espresso if you please. Something that gets us talking too!

Reemma with her Society co-star Rayvirr Singh

Getting the peck right
Here's why Reemma had to go through 30 retakes for a scene in Society...

This one is surly a Kiss-and -tell story. Reemma, who is playing a journalist in her next Bollywood  venture, Society, had to reportedly go through 30 retakes to get the perfect kiss. Reemma laughs, "I wasn't counting the number of retakes, but there were quite afew. I don't think it's a big deal because it was just a peck on the cheek, not an intimate kiss. Rajverr Singh (hero-star) is a new comer and I guess he was a bit tense while kissing me in front of the entire crew."
While Reemma didn't mind the number of retakes, she admits she's hesitant about doing intimate kissing scenes in movies. "I know that kissing scenes and bikinis are not a big deal anymore. But I wouldn't be comfortable it. I'd have to give it some thought," she says.
As for Society, Reemma ways it's a feel-good  film her character a bubbly one. "While the film has a serious message, it's been delivered in a fun way. I understood the deadlines that journalists have to face every day," she says. Reemma is also starring in Priyadarsan's next film, Aakrosh, with Akshay kumar. "Priyadarsan takes a break from comedies and delves into an important issue in this film, " she says.

juggles hectic tournaments and regular practice,
and still manages to have a lofe

She'sjust 20, and yet she has carved a niche for herself on both the national and international badminton circuits through sheer hard work and passion for the game."Since the beginning, I've tried to keep the fun quotient alive while playing the game. My target this year is to play fewer tournaments and focus more on bigger events, like the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games," says Saina.
With so many tournaments, tours and a rigid fitness regime, does she get enough time for herself, her friends and family? "When you are fully devoted to your game, it's difficult to stay connected to your friends and relatives. But that issue has now been taken care of, as I now use a Nokia E72, which helps me keep in touch with everyone all the time," Saina says. Confessing that she's a gadget freak, she adds, "I'm a big gadget fan. I own a laptop, a camera and the Nokia E72, i've loved the brand since I was a kid. Now, my association with Nokia has become very strong, as it helps me juggle my personal and professional life with utmost ease."
Talking about the best featured that have made her so brand loyal, Saina says, "The E72's mobile e-mail feature hilps me to check my mail on the go, and I don't need to carry a laptop everywhere. I can even set tup to 10 e-mail accounts on the home screen of my handset." Since she's on tour all over the world. the navigator in the handset appeals to her a lot, too. IPL CRICKET 2010 - Deccan Chargers Vs Kings XI Punjab

IPL CRICKET 2010

Deccan on semis charge
Not the end of the road for CSK
Rohit's 68* Helps DC Stay In Hunt Fir Last-4 Berth

Dharamsale:Deccan Chargers' hopes of reaching the semifinals of IPL-3 got a shot in the arm after they beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets at the picturesque HPCA stadium on Friday. With 14 points from 13 matches, they are now on fourth spot.Chasing 175 on a tricky track assisting seamers was never e3asy. But Rohit Sharma (68 not out, 38, 6x4, 3x6) led the run chase with clinical perfection; he didn't panic after Juan Theron castled  Andrew Symonds with Chargers still needing 48 runs of 33 deliveries.
The in-form batsman paced his knock beautifully, never allowing the asking-rate to creep over nine. Chargers began the chase on a shaky note with skipper Adam Gilchrist holing out to Theron at cover off Irfan Pathan in the second over. But new batsman Tirumalasetti Suman hit a quickfire 43 (31b,3x4, 3x6) to ensure Chargers don't buckle under pressure. And the job was completed by Rohit in great style. Apart from hitting some good-looking shots down the wicket, he smacked Irfan Pathan through mid-wicket for a four and six in successive deliveries when Chargers needed 19 runs off two overs. Those two shots killed off Punjab's hopes of pulling off a thriller.
Earlier, put into bat, a special innings by Mahela Jayawardene )93 not out, 62b, 13x4, 2x6)) helped them post a decent 174 for 3, Gilchrist's decision looked correct with the green wicket offering good bounce and movement. The bowlers too backed their skipper and, for a change, the ball missed the edge more than it sailed over the ropes in the initial stages.
A dogged 86-run second wicket stand between skipper Kumar Snagakkara (52, 37b, 11x4, 1x6) and Jayawardene bailed Kings XI out of trouble after Shaun Marsh edged Ryan Harris to Gilchrist in the first over. The Sri Lankan duo then got into damage control mode, playing on the merit of the ball, rather than trying to go hammer and tongs. Sangakkara played some crisp cuts before throwing away his wicket while attempting a reverse sweep off leggle rahul Sharma.
