     However, it is true that our chances of surviving natural disaster are now much better. Satellite-aided weather forecasting and underground sensor systems can give warnings of imminent storms or seismic events. And much progress has been made against that unseen natural enemy -- disease. The  plagues that once brought disaster to whole nations can now be controlled by modern medicine. Or so we hope.....
