IPL CRICKET 2010
Delhi DareDevils Vs Kolkata Knight Riders
WARNEING BELL TOLLS
Left-Hander's 107 Helps DD Rout KKR By 40 Runs
New Delhi: For a lingering moment, a packed Ferzeshah Kotla was plunged into stunned silence as david Warner slowly made his way out of the centre, 'dismissed' at 96. Soon, the crowd began chanting. "Warner. Warner" as it became clear that on field umpires had asked the TV umpire to find out if the ball had bumped before Murali Kartik took the 'catch.'
The verdict was in batsman's favour and an ecstatic Warner rushed back to duly complete his century and take Delghi Daredevils to a healthy 177 for four in their IPL game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday.
The ask proved too much for KKR who struggled to 137 for nine to lose by 40 runs. Daredevils, thus, jump into joint second spot inthe points tally.
Sourav Ganguly, of sunlime touch and timing looked distinctly out of sorts, even ungainly as he tried to counter Dirk Nannes' pace by moving around in a bid to dreate space for big shots.
He managed one four before getting bowled for five. Mandeep Singh and Manoj Tiwary both went without scoring and when Chris Gayle left to make it 50/4, Daredevils had the game in the pocket more or less.
Warner, who is fast becoming the main propeller in Daredevils' IPL charge this season, having given the team some rollicking starts, not only began but also finished the job on Monday.
His maiden T20 hundred (107 not out, 69 balls, 9 fours, 5 sixes) which is this IPL's second, gave both thrust and substance to thge innings and came when Delhi needed it badly.
They had lost Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Denesh Karthik in the first three oivers and another wicket at that point would have Warner was the backbone of the innings, played the dieal foil.
But he was innovative too, coming out of the crease and picking the gaps well, especially between long-on and mid-wicket.
Collingwood's dismissal was a high point of the game he crashed Charl Kangeveldt towards the long-off fence where David Hussey leapt high, palmed the ball back into play, crossed the boundary line and came back to catch it inches from the ground.
There was plenty of spin in the track which was exploited by both Murali Kartik and Amit Mishra, the latter contributing to delhi's victory by bowling a fine spell of 4-0-18-1.
Before the start of the match, delhi9 captain Gambhir gave hi steam a lift by reporting fit for the game. His status on Sunday was 'unlikely to play' but there he was, at the toss with Ganbguly- two southpaws of steely determination and a voracious appetite for success. On this day, Gambhir finished on top.
