IPL CRICKET 2010

KKR Lost because of poor planning

It's hard to imagine that Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Rajasthan Royals by 34 runs even though they had seven wickets in the shed when the final over began. Clearly, things went horribly wrong for the Kolkata team and they seemed unable to change gears once they got into cruise control. Why didn't any of the batsmen try to change the momentum? Why did the form players not come in earlier ?
Both Sourav Ganguly and Dav Whatmore must take responsibility for faulty planning on Saturday, and they need to address these problem areas immediately, since they meet Mumbai Indians on Monday.
One of the cardinal rules of T20 is to get the form players in early. Angelo Mathews looks in good touch as does Owais Shah, but the former came in with just three balls to spare. It was as though Kolkata kept threatening to cut loose and when they did decide to up the tempo, the game had got too far away from them. Nobody seized the opportunity to stand up for the team, and the hesitant approach cost the team the match.
I can understand Sourav sending himself in at No.3 or four, because as captain he would want to lead from the front. However, one has to do the business on the field, and that is not happening for him at the moment. The team will be hoping for Chris Gayle to be ready for Monday's game as it is clear that they lack firepower at the start of the innings. Things look a little ominous for Kolkata at the moment and they need to stem the rot in the next game itself.
