STERILIZATION AND DISINFECTION
HIV is a very fragile virus. Boiling for few seconds kills the virus. Most of the disinfectants used in hospital easily kill HIV . But disinfection and cleaning with water is essential before sterilization/Disinfection to ensure viral inactivation.
Sterilization
- Autoclaving at 121(deg) C, 15 lbs pressure for 20 minutes.
- Dry heat 160(deg)C, for 1 hr.
- Boiling for 20-30 minutes.
Chemical disinfection
Sodium hypochlorite,Lysol, Chloramine, ethanol, 2-Propanol , Formalin.Glutaraldehyde,Povidone iodine (PVI), Hydrogen peroxide.
