An ABI is a small device that is surgically implanted in the brain stem of a deaf person whose auditory nerves are damaged

People who have an auditory brainstem implant a disease generating tumors in the brain that can leave the auditory nerve damaged

  • What does this implant do?
The auditory brainstem implant consists of a small electrode applied to the brainstem, a microphone, and a speech processor. The electrode stimulates acoustic nerves by means of electrical signals and the speech processor transmits the sound signals under the skin
