A big relief! Looks like the five day holiday from June 23 to 27. due to the World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore has come as a big relief to Mani Ratnam's much hyped Raavanan. The film that opened to full houses on weekends in Chennai and Coimbatore, soon started dipping on Monday and Yesterday. However, the holidays came as a rescue, as business picked up on Wednesday and went on steadily during the weekend. "Mani Ratnam has to thank the state government for announcing the five-day holiday due to Tamil Conference, which has really bettered Raavana's collections. The film which received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, has put up a better show and the Tamil version has done better business than the Hindi and Telugu versions put together this weekend. Needless to say, Raavanan is a hit," says a renowned trade analyst. In the meantime, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, the movie's dialogue writer met Chennai City Police Commissioner T Rajendran to complain about the pirated CDs of Raavanan, making their way into Tamil Nadu. "We have asked the police to stop the sales of pirated CDs and have blocked some of the websites which have been illegally uploaded," said Suhasini. |
